MSCI Rebalancing: Which Indian Stocks Face Major Fund Flows?

MSCI's latest rebalancing is set to trigger significant buying and selling in Indian stocks on Monday, August 31, with the revised weights becoming effective from September 1. The final 30 minutes of Monday's session could see particularly high activity as passive funds rebalance their portfolios. Stocks Expected to See Inflows Among the key beneficiaries, Laurus Labs is estimated to attract around $598 million, followed by

LENSKART
at $352 million, Adani Energy Solutions at $310 million and Groww at $256 million. Together, these four stocks could see around $1.52 billion of passive inflows following their inclusion in the MSCI index. Several existing constituents are also receiving higher index weights. Eternal could see around $674 million of inflows, while Adani Enterprises, Adani Ports, JSW Energy, Adani Power, GMR Airports and Swiggy are also expected to benefit from higher weights. The combined estimated inflow from these weight increases is around $1.05 billion. Stocks Facing Outflows On the other side, stocks being removed or seeing lower weights could face passive selling. Reliance Industries is expected to see the largest outflow at around $523 million, followed by Jio Financial at $61 million. Indian Hotels, AB Capital and Colgate are also expected to see outflows. Stocks being excluded include Balkrishna Industries, SBI Cards and Astral, with combined estimated outflows of around $450 million. My View The immediate impact is likely to be flow-driven rather than fundamental. Inclusion in MSCI can create strong passive demand, while exclusions or weight reductions can lead to temporary selling pressure. Therefore, investors should be careful about interpreting Monday's price moves as a change in the underlying business outlook.

Trent Limited Nifty Top Gainer August 25 2026 Session

Trent Limited

TRENT
was among the top three gainers in the Nifty 50 on August 25, 2026, rising in a session where the broader Sensex fell approximately 73 points to 77,234 and 14 of 16 major sectoral indices closed lower, as Iran sanctions uncertainty, elevated crude and the first monthly derivatives expiry under the new closing-auction system all weighed on broader sentiment. Trent, Eternal and Axis Bank were among the top gainers on the Nifty on August 25, 2026, even as the broader market traded flat to negative and HCL Tech, Tech Mahindra and NTPC were among the top losers.</cite> Trent Limited has delivered one of the more consistent performances among Nifty consumer names through a difficult August, a month in which most large-cap stocks have been pulled lower by geopolitical and regulatory headwinds. The stock's August resilience builds on a Q1 FY27 earnings beat that the market re-rated sharply: Q1 FY27 net profit: Rs 1,777 crore, up 62.88 per cent versus the previous quarter Consumer business growth: 41 per cent year on year in Q1 FY27 International operations growth: 128 per cent year on year New stores added in Q1 FY27: 77, taking the network to 3,680 stores across 25 countries 52-week high: Rs 4,600.80 — a record, hit in recent weeks 52-week low: Rs 2,968.40 Bonus share issue: 1:2, completed June 2026 Rights issue planned: Rs 2,500 crore for store expansion The broader market context for Wednesday, August 26 — Nvidia earnings tonight and Jackson Hole this week — means that consumer discretionary names with strong domestic earnings momentum and low global macro sensitivity, like Trent, tend to hold up better than IT or metal names when global events dominate sentiment. That structural characteristic has been on display repeatedly through August.

Eternal Limited Nifty Top Gainer August 25 2026 Session

Eternal Limited

ETERNAL
NA was among the top three gainers in the Nifty 50 on August 25, 2026, as the broader Sensex recovered 286.98 points to close at 77,656.09 and the Nifty advanced 115.50 points to 24,334.55 — snapping a two-session losing streak as crude eased and FPIs turned net buyers. The August 25 outperformance extends Eternal Limited's [
ETERNAL
][SHARE PRICE URL] consistent run as one of the few Nifty names that has held up through the entirety of August's Iran-sanctions, crude-spike, and NBFC-regulatory pressure cycle. The stock has now featured among the Nifty's top five gainers in three of the past seven sessions. The fundamental story supporting that consistency: Q1 FY27 net profit: Rs 92 crore, up 268 per cent year on year EBITDA: Rs 969 crore, up 106.6 per cent year on year Food delivery revenue: Rs 10,769 crore, up 20.1 per cent year on year Monthly transacting users: 27.2 million Long-term quick commerce margin guidance raised to 6 per cent 52-week high: Rs 368.45; 52-week low: Rs 212.60 Current level approximately Rs 310 — 46 per cent above the 52-week floor Mutual fund shareholding: 31.68 per cent as of August 5, 2026 On Wednesday, August 26, markets open with a positive gap-up signal from GIFT Nifty at 24,561. Crude easing, FPI buying momentum of Rs 27,186 crore in August so far, and Nvidia earnings tonight as a potential Nifty IT catalyst all create a constructive backdrop for consumer-tech names with improving quarterly earnings. Eternal sits at the intersection of all three tailwinds.

BERNSTEIN SEES QUICK-COMMERCE DISCOUNTS NORMALISING

Bernstein says discounting in quick commerce has reduced materially, with grocery discounts declining by around 400–500 bps over the last 1–2 months.

ETERNAL
The aggressive phase of dark-store expansion is also slowing as major players approach the ~1,000 dark-store threshold required to achieve broad coverage across large cities. Companies are expected to shift towards more targeted discounting, including larger-cart incentives and repeat-customer offers, instead of broad customer-acquisition discounts. The next phase is likely to focus on improving productivity and profitability from existing dark stores rather than rapid network expansion. The focus is therefore shifting from customer acquisition towards customer retention, higher order volumes and better store-level economics. Impact: Positive — moderation in discounts and slower dark-store expansion could improve unit economics and support the path towards profitability for Eternal and Swiggy.

Eternal Q1 FY27: Growth With a Margin Test

ETERNAL
Eternal delivered June 2026 quarter. Profit after tax rose 268% YoY to ₹92 crore. Revenue from operations climbed 182% to ₹20,211 crore, compared with ₹7,167 crore a year earlier. Quick commerce was central to growth. Blinkit’s revenue increased to ₹15,664 crore from ₹2,400 crore. The inventory-led 1P model records the full value of goods sold, so revenue growth does not equal commission income growth. Quick-commerce net order value rose 86% YoY to ₹17,132 crore, while the segment generated adjusted EBITDA of ₹102 crore. Margins improved for the fifth consecutive quarter. Food delivery remained healthy. Revenue grew 37% to ₹3,100 crore from ₹2,261 crore. Going Out revenue increased to ₹318 crore from ₹207 crore, while Hyperpure supplies recorded ₹1,034 crore, down from ₹2,295 crore in Q1 FY26. This shows diversification, but also uneven growth. For shareholders, the positives are strong demand, scale-up and improving quick-commerce economics. Operating profit reached ₹365 crore, against a ₹42-crore loss a year earlier. Adjusted EBITDA rose 223% YoY to ₹555 crore, pointing to better operating leverage. Risks remain. Net profit fell 47% sequentially from ₹174 crore, and the ₹92-crore result missed expectations of about ₹335 crore. Blinkit’s expansion requires spending on dark stores, delivery, technology and discounts. Competition may pressure margins, while the 1P model can make growth appear larger than underlying economics. Hyperpure’s decline needs monitoring. Overall, Q1 FY27 benefited long-term shareholders because scale and profitability improved together. Investors should track free cash flow, store-level profits, order growth, customer retention and sustainable margins. Eternal’s outlook is promising, but value creation depends on consistent, cash-backed earnings.
