Market aftermath: Impact on stocks
Ather Energy Q2: First Profit Sends the Stock Up 17.6%
Ather Energy reported a net profit of ₹1.26 crore for the September quarter, compared with a net loss of ₹154.07 crore a year earlier and a loss of ₹51.09 crore in the June quarter. The profit is small, but it is the first time the electric scooter maker has made money in a quarter. Total income rose 62.3% to ₹1,526.95 crore from ₹940.67 crore, which shows that sales growth is now large enough to cover the company’s costs.
The shares rose as much as 17.6% to ₹1,623 on the NSE and were trading 12.5% higher at ₹1,554 at 3 pm, with about 85 lakh shares traded. The stock has gained 101% so far this financial year, from ₹754 at the end of March, though it remains below its 52-week high of ₹1,744. Ather also raised capital during the quarter: about ₹1,300 crore by selling shares to institutional investors at ₹1,202 each, ₹200 crore through a share sale to selected investors at ₹1,230 each, and ₹1,000 crore through convertible warrants at ₹1,260 each. It has received about ₹250 crore of the warrant money so far, and the rest is due within 18 months.
ITC Hotels Q2: Profit Rises 51% and Shares Climb 8%
ITC Hotels reported consolidated net profit of ₹201.02 crore, up 51% from ₹132.77 crore a year earlier. Revenue rose 26% to ₹1,054.14 crore, and operating profit grew 37% to ₹337 crore. The operating margin, excluding branded residences, improved to 32% from 29.3%. The shares opened flat at ₹156 and rose to ₹168.50, up 7.85%, after the results were announced.
The growth came from both more guests and higher prices. Occupancy rose 4.81 percentage points to 76%, and average room rates increased 14%, so revenue earned per available room grew 21%. Conferences and events, helped by the BRICS Summit in New Delhi, added to demand. Food and beverage revenue rose 12% and management fees grew 25%. ITC Ratnadipa turned profitable at the operating level. The company signed 20 hotels with more than 1,600 rooms in the first half, taking its managed pipeline to 84 hotels with about 8,200 rooms, and plans to set up a subsidiary in Dubai.
SBI Funds Management Q2: Profit Miss Pushes Stock to a Record Low
SBI Funds Management fell as much as 7% to ₹433.55, its lowest level since listing on 21 July 2026, and 24% below its issue price of ₹574. Its quarterly profit fell 6% year-on-year to ₹701 crore, below the ₹766 crore analysts expected, as operating expenses rose 24.3% to ₹301 crore. The fee it earns on assets slipped slightly to 0.361%. At 12.32 pm, the stock was down 4% at ₹445.65, and trading volume was nearly double the usual level at 2.52 million shares.
The bigger concern is market share. SBI’s equity fund assets grew 5.6% in the quarter, below the industry’s 6.6%, which lowered its market share to 12.53%. Its share of monthly SIP inflows fell to 12% from 12.65% in June, and its share of new SIP registrations dropped to 9.94% from 10.6%. Brokerages remain positive. Equirus has a target of ₹540 and Motilal Oswal a target of ₹590, both well above the current price, citing SBI’s distribution network and growth in its alternative investment products.
Crude Oil: Brent Eases to $114 After Friday’s $116 Close
At 10.03 am, December Brent futures were at $114.48, down 1.92%, and WTI was at $101.01, down 2.19%. This followed Friday’s close, when Brent settled at $116.72 and WTI at $103.27. On the MCX, November crude traded at ₹9,619, down 1.85% from ₹9,800, and natural gas fell 2.22% to ₹286.20.
The risks have not gone away. The Houthis claimed responsibility for attacks on a Saudi airport and oil facilities on Saturday, though Saudi Arabia said it had intercepted the missiles and drones. President Trump told Fox News on Sunday that it was “decision time” on whether to make a deal with Iran or “finish off” the country. For India, Brent at $114 is lower than Friday’s level but still very high, and any escalation could push it back up quickly.
Conclusion
Monday gave the market a break after four losing sessions. The Sensex gained 483 points, smallcaps rose 1.38%, and 37 of the 50 Nifty stocks ended higher. Company results drove the biggest moves: Ather reached its first profit, ITC Hotels benefited from higher occupancy and room rates, and SBI Funds Management showed that a strong brand does not prevent investors from selling after an earnings miss. Crude easing from $116 helped, but with the US now openly talking about “decision time” on Iran, oil remains the main risk. One positive day does not reverse the trend, but it shows that buyers return when results are strong and oil prices ease.
