FirstCry Falls Below $1 Billion as Competition Intensifies

FIRSTCRY
parent Brainbees Solutions saw its market value fall below the $1 billion mark, as its shares declined amid rising competition in India’s babycare market. The company’s market value stood at around ₹9,481 crore, significantly below its peak valuation of nearly $4.5 billion. FirstCry had built a large network of warehouses, stores, product catalogue and supply chain, but newer players have entered the segment with 60-minute deliveries, sharper product selection and try-before-you-buy options. The company’s FY26 report also pointed to slower competitor monitoring, delayed product and AI initiatives, and changing customer behaviour as challenges. To accelerate its response, FirstCry has launched Qwik in five cities and expanded RocketBees to 62 cities, while focusing on premium products and private brands. The podcast also highlighted fresh funding activity in India’s semiconductor sector. Agrani Labs is in talks to raise around $50 million, while Ananant Systems is seeking around $5 million from the Uttar Pradesh government and the RDI fund. At the same time, RBI's merchant re-KYC deadline has created concerns for small QR-code merchants, with payment companies warning that merchants who fail to complete verification may be unable to receive customer payments.

A Bullish Engulfing is a two-candle bullish reversal pattern

FIRSTCRY
A Bullish Engulfing is a two-candle bullish reversal pattern that generally appears after a decline. The first candle is bearish, followed by a larger bullish candle whose real body completely engulfs the previous bearish candle’s body. It indicates that buyers have taken control from sellers and can signal a potential upward reversal, especially when formed near a strong support or demand zone. Confirmation through higher volume and a close above the engulfing candle’s high can improve the setup. Morning Star Pattern A Morning Star is a three-candle bullish reversal pattern that typically forms after a downtrend. It consists of a large bearish candle, a small-bodied candle showing indecision, and a strong bullish candle that closes well into the first candle’s body. It suggests that selling pressure is weakening and buyers are gaining control. The pattern is more significant when it forms near major support, a swing low, or trendline support. In simple terms: Bullish Engulfing → 2-candle bullish reversal signal. Morning Star → 3-candle bullish reversal signal. Both become stronger when supported by volume + important support zone + confirmation candle.

BROKRAGE BOOST----> FIRSTCRY May Finally Have a Reason to Smile! Morgan Stanley Sees Structural Growth Recovery

Morgan Stanley has maintained an Equal-weight rating on

FIRSTCRY
(FirstCry) with a target price of ₹300. The brokerage sees encouraging signs in India's revenue growth, but the latest quarter also highlighted pressure on margins. ------->Key Takeaways from Morgan Stanley 1. Q1 Margin Miss FirstCry's Q1 margins came in below expectations. The key reasons were: • Intense competition in the diaper category • Higher manufacturing costs These factors weighed on India's profitability. 2. India Revenue Growth Is Improving This is perhaps the most encouraging part of the report. Morgan Stanley believes the improvement in India revenue growth is structural, rather than just a temporary recovery. That could be important for FirstCry because India remains the company's core growth opportunity. 3. FY27 Growth Could Remain Strong Morgan Stanley expects growth to remain elevated through FY27. The company is being supported by strategic initiatives aimed at: • Increasing customer reach • Expanding its product ecosystem FOCUS STOCKS::
FIRSTCRY
!NYKAA !ETERNAL !SWIGGY ------->Bottom Line FirstCry's Q1 showed a classic growth-vs-margin story. India growth is improving and Morgan Stanley sees this improvement as structural, which is a positive sign. But near-term margins remain under pressure because of diaper competition and higher manufacturing costs. If price pass-through works as expected and manufacturing margins recover from Q2, the earnings picture could improve. Morgan Stanley: Equal-weight | Target Price: ₹300 The key question now isn't just how fast FirstCry grows — it's how quickly that growth can translate into better margins.

FirstCry's Profitability Improved Sharply. But There's Still One Big Question.

FIRSTCRY
's parent brainbees Solutions, reported a much better Q1 FY27 on profitability. Consolidated revenue rose about 13% YoY to ₹2,106 crore, while EBITDA jumped 73.5% to ₹59 crore. EBITDA margin also improved from 1.8% to 2.8%. The net loss narrowed to ₹31 crore, from ₹46 crore a year ago. On the surface, that's encouraging. But here's the number I'd watch more closely: revenue growth. A 13% increase is healthy, but for a company whose investment case depends heavily on capturing a massive long-term opportunity in India's mother-and-baby market, investors eventually need to see stronger growth alongside the margin improvement. The good news is that profitability is moving in the right direction. Higher EBITDA growth suggests operating leverage is beginning to show up. But there's a trade-off. If margins keep improving while revenue growth remains around the low teens, the earnings story can still work—but the market may eventually demand evidence that FirstCry can accelerate growth without giving back those margin gains. That's the key question for the next few quarters. Can FirstCry become both a faster-growing business and a more profitable business at the same time? The takeaway: Don't look at a turnaround only through the profit number. Ask what is improving, what is still weak, and whether both can improve simultaneously. For FirstCry, profitability is getting better. Now growth needs to prove it can keep up.

India’s Toy Industry Surges: Exports Up 89% as Quality Standards Reach New Highs

India’s toy sector has achieved remarkable growth in manufacturing, quality, and international trade, driven by targeted government initiatives. According to a Lok Sabha statement by Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Jitin Prasada, India’s toy exports surged by 89.1% from ₹1,913.16 crore ($203.5 million) in FY19 to ₹3,616.18 crore ($384.7 million) in FY26. Concurrently, toy imports dropped by 37.5% to ₹2,183.62 crore ($232.3 million). This expanding footprint was on full display at the 17th Toy Biz International B2B Exhibition, which brought together 400 domestic brands, 100 foreign buyers, and nearly 30,000 business visitors to boost sales and export networks. To achieve this momentum, the government executed a National Action Plan for Toys that enforced strict Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) quality controls, raised import duties, and supported exporters through cluster development, Startup India, and the RoDTEP scheme. Trade agreements with key markets like the UAE, Australia, the EFTA, Oman, New Zealand, and the UK have also secured zero-duty market access for Indian toys. The strategy’s impact is underscored by a 2025 BIS survey showing that 95% of tested toy samples met quality standards—up dramatically from just 33% in 2019—positioning India as a globally competitive hub for high-quality toy production.
