Control Print slowdown persists as core revenue growth drops

Control Print Limited (

CONTROLPR
) reported weak Q1 performance, with core domestic coding and marking revenue growth slowing down to 4% year on year. Sequential margin pressure and ongoing losses in its international packaging business continue to weigh on the company. The company faced dual pressures during the quarter. The domestic business, comprising roughly 95% of total revenue, saw sluggish growth due to seasonality, order deferrals in consumables, and broader industry slowdowns linked to West Asia disruptions. Higher raw material costs further compressed gross margins. Control Print is the sole domestic player competing against major multinational corporations in India's ₹2,200 crore coding and marking market, maintaining a 19% to 20% market share. With an active installed base exceeding 23,000 printers, high-margin consumables and service contracts typically generate steady recurring revenue. The domestic core business remains structurally sound, backed by an expanding footprint in Track & Trace solutions (QRiousCodes). Mandates requiring QR codes on top pharmaceutical products expand the addressable market from ₹600 crore to ₹1,500 crore, creating long-run volume potential where Control Print already generated ₹20 crore in FY26. The primary drag on valuation is international packaging. Management projects a turnaround and breakeven for V Shapes by H1FY28 using local co-packaging strategies, material lamination, and recyclable packaging development. Until these international initiatives stop eroding capital, the stock will likely remain rangebound despite its cash-rich, low-debt balance sheet and reasonable valuation. What to watch next Breakeven milestones and margin recovery in the V Shapes packaging segment. Conversion rates for ongoing Track & Trace pilots with top Indian pharmaceutical firms. Stabilisation of raw material costs and sequential gross margin expansion in core coding and marking.

Asian Paints promoter buys 1.64 lakh shares inter-se

ASIANPAINT
(ASIANPAINT) promoter group entity has acquired 164,000 shares through an inter-se transfer. Post-transaction holding stands at 180,666 shares or 0.019% of total voting capital. The shares were transferred within the promoter group via block deal. Overall promoter group shareholding in the company remains unchanged. Such transfers are routine internal rearrangements among promoter entities. The key figure is the 164,000 shares acquired, taking the holding to 0.019%. This has no impact on overall promoter control. Other paint companies such as Berger Paints and Kansai Nerolac may see no effect. Near-term price movement is unlikely from this disclosure. Risks are minimal as it is an internal transfer. We have no financial interest in this news.

The Best Businesses Rarely Compete on Price.

When a purchase represents a tiny fraction of the customer's total project cost but has the potential to cause massive losses if it fails, price becomes a secondary consideration. A ₹20 lakh transformer can delay a ₹500 crore project. A failed medical device can put lives at risk. A faulty industrial bearing can halt an entire production line. That's why companies like !Shilchar Technologies,

POLYMED
,
TIMKEN
,
SKFINDIA
and Control Print often compete on reliability, quality and execution rather than being the cheapest supplier. In investing, look for businesses where customers ask "Will it work?" before they ask "How much does it cost?"

The Real Opportunity Begins When a Product Fails.

Investors usually look for companies that sell more products. I look for companies that benefit when products wear out. Every worn-out bearing, damaged cable, expired fire extinguisher, contaminated water filter or old transformer creates demand that cannot be postponed. That's a different kind of business. It doesn't depend on consumer sentiment. It depends on the installed base. Companies like

SKFINDIA
,
TIMKEN
,
CONTROLPR
,
CASTROLIND
and
KIRLOSBROS
quietly participate in this replacement economy. Growth stories come and go. Replacement demand rarely does.

Every New Factory Creates a 20-Year Service Economy.

When a company announces a ₹5,000 crore manufacturing plant, investors rush to the EPC contractor. But that's just Day 1. For the next two decades, that factory will keep spending on calibration, filtration, lubrication, compressed air, industrial gases, safety audits, wastewater treatment, coding & marking, bearings, valves and replacement parts. The factory is built once. The ecosystem around it gets paid every year. Companies like

ELGIEQUIP
,
CONTROLPR
,
LINDEINDIA
,
SKFINDIA
,
CASTROLIND
and
IONEXCHANG
operate in different corners of this long-tail industrial services economy. The next time you read about a new manufacturing plant, don't stop at who built it. Ask who will keep earning from it for the next 20 years.
