Jindal Saw Limited: Q2 Financial Review and Market Reaction

JINDALSAW
Executive Summary Shares of Jindal Saw Ltd. experienced sustained downward momentum, sliding 7.3% intraday on October 22 to mark a cumulative 18% decline over three trading sessions. The correction reflects market sensitivity to substantial margin compression and earnings degradation reported in its September quarter (Q2) results, despite modest top-line expansion. Q2 Financial Performance The company’s quarterly metrics revealed significant profitability headwinds: Net Profitability: Consolidated net profit attributable to owners declined 69.03% year-on-year (YoY) to ₹47.04 crore compared to ₹151.89 crore in the corresponding prior-year period. Sequentially, attributable PAT fell 54.84% from ₹104.17 crore in Q1. Consolidated PAT stood at ₹35.28 crore, down 74.54% YoY. Revenue vs. Costs: Revenue from operations grew 5.63% YoY to ₹4,471.79 crore (up 0.44% sequentially). However, overall expenditure escalated 10.13% YoY to ₹4,505.22 crore, surpassing total revenue and straining operational leverage. Operating Margins: EBITDA contracted 42% YoY to ₹261 crore from ₹451 crore. Consequently, EBITDA margin eroded by 490 basis points to 5.8% compared to 10.7% in Q2 FY26. Per Share Metrics: Diluted EPS declined to ₹0.74 against ₹2.38 in Q2 last year. Credit Assessment Amid operational volatility, balance-sheet safety metrics remain intact. Brickwork Ratings reaffirmed its 'BWR AA/Stable' rating on the company’s ₹500 crore non-convertible debentures (NCDs), indicating a high degree of safety, robust debt servicing capabilities, and minimal credit risk. Market Valuation Context Currently trading near ₹250, Jindal Saw sits approximately 21.5% off its 52-week peak of ₹320, though it maintains a 50% gain year-to-date and trades 64.3% above its 52-week low of ₹153. Investors are closely assessing whether input-cost rationalization and capacity execution will stabilize operating margins in the coming quarters.

Jindal Saw's revenue rises, but profit drops 75%

JINDALSAW
Jindal Saw Limited (JINDALSAW) reported Q2 FY27 consolidated total income of ₹4,523 crore, up around 6% year-on-year. Yet profit after tax fell to ₹35.3 crore from ₹138.6 crore a year earlier. That is the part investors should pay attention to. Consolidated EBITDA declined to ₹312.3 crore from ₹481.6 crore. EBITDA margin contracted to approximately 6.9%, compared with 11.3% in Q2 FY26. This is not simply a story of weak demand. The company's results presentation highlights several operating challenges. Exports to the Middle East were halted amid regional instability, affecting capacity utilisation and revenue recognition. India's water-pipe business also faced persistent domestic oversupply and cash-flow pressure from delays in Jal Jeevan Mission-related payments. The order book offers some support. Jindal Saw reported an iron and steel pipe and pellet order book of approximately $1.135 billion, alongside letters of intent worth another $575 million. However, the company expects execution of the existing order book to span 9 to 12 months, and the Middle East disruption remains a factor to watch. My view: the order book is encouraging, but it does not automatically protect earnings. Investors need to see whether orders convert into sales at healthier margins and whether export execution resumes. For the next quarter, I would track EBITDA margin recovery, Middle East shipments and cash-flow improvement. A revenue recovery without margin improvement would not be enough to call this a turnaround.

Jindal Saw holds its breakout-retest zone!

Jindal Saw holds its breakout-retest zone Jindal Saw Limited (NSE: JINDALSAW) is showing a constructive technical structure after successfully retesting its recent ascending breakout zone. The stock has also found support near its 50-day EMA and a long-term rising trendline. The recent price action shows a higher-high and higher-low structure. After the earlier breakout, the stock pulled back toward its support area and then bounced. This type of retest is important because it tests whether the previous breakout zone can now act as support. My view is that the current setup remains constructive as long as the stock holds its recent support structure. The 50-day EMA and rising trendline are the two areas I would monitor closely during any short-term correction. The next important trigger is the recent swing high. A sustained move above that level would confirm continuation of the existing trend. On the other hand, a decisive breakdown below the retest zone would weaken the setup and indicate that the breakout needs reassessment.
