India-Netherlands Agriculture Bilateral Summit
Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Shivraj Singh Chouhan held bilateral talks in New Delhi with the Netherlands’ Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries, Food Security and Nature, Silvio Erkens, to review and expand agricultural cooperation between the two nations. Accompanied by a high-level Dutch delegation—including Director General Marten van den Berg and Ambassador Marisa Gerards—the two leaders reaffirmed their commitment to boosting farm productivity through modern technology, innovation, and expertise sharing. Key discussions centered on evaluating progress under existing bilateral frameworks while identifying new opportunities across agriculture, horticulture, seed technology, and agritech research.
A central outcome of the meeting was the review of 25 proposed and operational Centres of Excellence (CoEs) established across India to advance horticulture and precision farming techniques. To streamline sector-specific integration, both nations agreed to formulate a comprehensive work plan for seed sector cooperation, establishing a clear execution framework for joint research and trade. Emphasizing the transformative impact of agricultural innovation, both ministers agreed to foster deeper institutional ties between Indian and Dutch researchers, private enterprises, and technology providers to enhance resource efficiency and long-term crop yields.
