LTI Mindtree Q1: AI growth strong, labour costs cap margins

LTM
LTI Mindtree's Q1 FY27 (Apr-Jun 2026) results showcased the AI-led growth thesis: revenue surged 18% YoY to Rs 11,608 crore, net profit climbed 17% YoY to Rs 1,469 crore, and margins expanded sequentially. Deal wins were robust; management framed an "AI-driven long-term growth ambition" with strong GenAI capabilities across client segments. TCV pipelines remain healthy. Stock analysts upgraded to Hold at Rs 6,000 target, signaling stabilization after years of underperformance post-LTI Mindtree merger. This is the bullish read: AI is unlocking pricing power and margin upside in an otherwise flat global IT services market. The flaw: Q3 FY26 (Jan-Mar 2026) revealed the hidden cost structure. New Indian labour code regulations triggered wage inflation, compressing PAT 31% QoQ despite flat QoQ revenue—a stark signal that margin expansion is cyclical, not structural. Labour cost inflation (employer contributions, statutory compliance) is endemic to India's tech workforce; as more companies pass the cost-push phase (as LTI Mindtree did in Q3), the AI-driven pricing advantage erodes. Management guidance for FY27 assumes 18-20% margin sustainability, but this assumes either client pricing power holds or wage growth decelerates—neither is guaranteed. The stock is trapped in a binary: if AI deal wins sustain 15%+ growth and pricing holds, Rs 6,500-6,800 is achievable (15-20% upside). If labour cost inflation accelerates further (new minimum wage regimes in Indian states, attrition-driven wage pressure), and global IT spending slows (risk given macro headwinds), margins compress to 16-17% and stock falls to Rs 5,200-5,400 (10-15% downside). Entry below Rs 5,500 on labour cost stabilization signals. Above Rs 6,200 validates recovery. Exit if Q2 FY27 margins contract below 18% or TCV deal value disappoints.

Nifty50 Snaps 4-Day Winning Run as Expiry Volatility Hits

Nifty50 ended lower, breaking a four-session winning streak amid expiry-day volatility. IT stocks remained under pressure, while Coal India gained over 3%. IT stocks remained under pressure, extending their recent weakness, while Coal India emerged as one of the strongest gainers in the Nifty50 pack. The Nifty50 closed lower on Thursday, ending its four-session winning streak as expiry-day volatility triggered cautious trading sentiment. Selling pressure persisted through the session, with the information technology sector weighing on the benchmark index. Nifty IT extended its decline for the third consecutive session, remaining the primary drag on market performance. Among the notable losers, LTM fell 2.84%, reflecting continued weakness in the technology segment. On the positive side, Coal India gained more than 3% and emerged as one of the top performers within the Nifty50 index. The stock has remained in focus due to its recent price strength and improving momentum. Coal India

COALINDIA
continues to exhibit positive momentum after its recent upmove. Technically, ₹436.50 remains an important near-term resistance level, while ₹409.50 is likely to act as key support. A sustained move above resistance may support further upside, whereas a break below support could signal renewed selling pressure. Disclosure: I have no holding in the mentioned scrip. LTIMINDTREE — bounce stalls halfway up the February fall

LTM
is at 4275, down 2.3%. The 20 MA sits at 4387.80 and the 50 MA at 4492.69. Worth stepping back on this one. The stock fell from 6300 in December to 3580 by early July, a decline of over 40%. August brought a decent bounce to around 4880. What we are seeing now is that bounce giving back ground, with price under both averages and the 20 having crossed below the 50 in the last few sessions. So the August recovery has stalled roughly halfway up the February to March collapse. IT services has been the weak pocket of the market, with clients holding back discretionary spend, and this chart reflects that rather than anything specific to the company. 4490 is the line that would put the recovery back on track. 4000 is where the July base began.

Nifty Weekly: 50 SMA Lost, Squeezed Into 24,040-24,208

Nifty's tested the 24,040 rising-window support again, settling at 24,175.65, down about 0.31% for the week. Crucially, it has slipped back below the 50 SMA (24,208) that it had reclaimed the week before, and RSI has eased to 46.98 from 49.09 — the first sub-50 reading in this consolidation stretch. This isn't a breakdown yet, but the bulls have given back last week's constructive gain. The index is now compressed between 24,040 support and 24,208 (50 SMA) resistance, with 24,652 (200 SMA) as the ultimate confirmation level for the broader Inverse H&S thesis, and 24,400 the upside objective if the 50 SMA is reclaimed. A daily close below 24,040 opens 23,645 next. Options data is mixed: cumulative PCR has fallen to 0.77 (call-heavy), but Friday alone saw far heavier put addition (+3.92 Cr vs +69.92 L calls) — hinting at fresh support-building near current levels even as longer-dated positioning turns cautious on the upside. Max Pain for the 01-Sep expiry sits at 24,200, just above Friday's close.

LTM
, after an Inverse Head & Shoulders breakout that carried the stock to around 4,800, saw a mild corrective pullback and has now given a continuation breakout backed by a volume surge. When a market compresses into a narrow band after failing to hold a reclaimed average, it's usually building energy for a decisive move — patience until the boundary breaks pays off.
