PAYTM, MOBIKWIK SHARES RISE AS NPCI WEIGHS UPI MDR DEFERMENT

PAYTM
Shares of Paytm and One MobiKwik Systems gained in early trade on October 9, while Pine Labs remained in negative territory, as the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) is set to decide whether to defer the implementation of merchant discount rate (MDR) charges on UPI transactions. On the NSE, Paytm shares rose 2.10%, while MobiKwik gained 6.36%. In contrast, Pine Labs fell 1.32%. The UPI Steering Committee is scheduled to meet in the first half of the day to discuss the proposed deferment, with an announcement expected around 1-2 pm, Moneycontrol reported. The development follows requests from merchant associations, fintech firms and payment companies to postpone the implementation. Stakeholders have raised concerns about the potential impact on consumer sentiment during festive-season sales, differences in MDR rates and uncertainty over the policy's applicability to various UPI transactions. Last month, the UPI Steering Committee set the MDR at 0.4%, or 40 basis points, for transactions exceeding Rs 2,000. The charges were scheduled to take effect from October 15, 2026. MDR refers to the fee merchants pay for processing digital payments. At the prescribed rate of 0.4%, the charge would amount to Rs 8 on a Rs 2,000 transaction and Rs 40 on every Rs 10,000 paid through UPI. Moneycontrol had earlier reported that the government was concerned that the additional charges could raise business costs during festive sales, particularly amid rising inflation. There are also concerns that merchants may pass on some of these costs to consumers. Investors will closely monitor NPCI's decision, as any deferment could have implications for digital payments companies, merchant adoption and the broader UPI ecosystem.

PAYTM STOCK CRASH! REASON COULD BLOW YOUR MIND

India's digital payments stocks came under heavy selling pressure today. Paytm, MobiKwik and Pine Labs all declined sharply after reports emerged that the planned rollout of UPI Merchant Discount Rate (MDR) could be delayed by a few months. The market had been pricing MDR as a major new revenue opportunity for payment companies. Now, uncertainty over the timing has triggered aggressive profit booking --->What Happened?

PAYTM
: Down as much as 10% MobiKwik: Down around 8% Pine Labs: Down around 4% The sell-off came after reports that merchant associations and industry participants have requested that the October 15 MDR implementation be postponed, potentially until January 2027. Importantly: MDR has NOT been officially cancelled. The issue currently is a possible delay in implementation, and the final decision is still pending with NPCI. --->What Happened? Positive Scenario If the MDR rollout happens with limited delay: Paytm + MobiKwik + Pine Labs + participating banks could benefit from a new transaction-based revenue stream. Negative Scenario If implementation is delayed significantly—or the framework is diluted: Expected revenue benefits could move further into the future. That could keep pressure on payment stocks. --->Bottom Line Paytm's crash isn't because UPI is disappearing. It's because the market was expecting UPI monetisation—and now the timing is uncertain.

MOBIKWIK — FROM WALLET TO FINTECH ENGINE 🚀💳

MOBIKWIK
MobiKwik's story is changing. From a digital wallet company fighting for relevance, it is becoming a broader payments + financial-services platform. And the numbers are starting to confirm it. Q1 FY27 delivered the third consecutive profitable quarter. PAT reached ₹7.6 crore, versus a ₹41.9 crore loss a year ago, while EBITDA turned positive at ₹15.8 crore. More importantly, contribution profit jumped 66% YoY to ₹128.6 crore. But profitability isn't the only signal. Platform GMV hit an all-time quarterly high of ₹58,700 crore, growing 50% YoY. That's a serious acceleration in transaction activity. And UPI is becoming increasingly important. MobiKwik says its UPI transaction growth has been running 5x faster than the overall industry, while the platform continues expanding beyond payments into credit and other financial products. Then comes the lending opportunity. ZIP EMI GMV reached ₹736.7 crore in Q1 FY27, while financial-services gross profit grew strongly as the company focused on improving portfolio quality and recoveries. The bigger thesis is therefore: More transactions → More engagement More engagement → More financial products More products → Better monetisation Better monetisation → Operating leverage And the platform already has significant scale — more than 193 million registered users and 5 million merchants, according to the company. But there is a catch. MobiKwik is still in an investment phase. FY26 ended with a consolidated net loss, while the company continues spending to build merchant acquiring, lending and AI-driven products. Competition is intense, credit cycles can hurt lending economics, and sustaining profitability while growing rapidly won't be easy. That's why this isn't simply a payments story. It's a bet that MobiKwik can turn a large user base into a profitable financial-services ecosystem. If that conversion continues, today's wallet could become tomorrow's fintech engine.

Consolidation at a Trendline Support Zone followed

MOBIKWIK
Consolidation at a Trendline Support Zone followed by a One-Day Upside Move is generally considered a bullish price-action setup, especially when the stock is already trading within an established uptrend. When price approaches an important rising trendline support, it often enters a period of consolidation, where price moves sideways within a relatively narrow range as buyers and sellers compete for control. This consolidation near support can indicate that selling pressure is being absorbed and buyers are gradually accumulating positions without allowing the price to break below the trendline. The longer the price holds above the trendline while maintaining higher lows, the more significant the support zone can become. A sudden strong upward move in a single trading session from this consolidation area suggests that buyers have gained control and that the stock may be attempting to resume its broader bullish trend. Ideally, the upside move should be supported by higher-than-average trading volume and a strong closing price, as this can indicate genuine participation rather than a temporary intraday spike. If the stock subsequently sustains above the consolidation range or its immediate resistance, the move can provide confirmation of bullish momentum, while a failure to hold the trendline support and a decisive close below it would weaken the setup and increase the possibility of further downside.
