Sugar Stocks Slide as Duty-Free Imports Put Price Rally at Risk
Sugar stocks fell up to 5% after the government allowed duty-free imports of 1 million tonnes of raw sugar for the first time in nearly a decade. The move aims to boost domestic supply and control rising sugar prices, which have surged nearly 40% in the past two months. While higher sugar prices had supported mill margins, increased imports could now cap further price hikes, putting pressure on sugar stocks in the near term.
