Objectives of Sumax Engineering
Sumax plans to put a sizeable part of the fresh issue towards two new manufacturing facilities. Working capital is another stated use of the proceeds:
| Objective | Amount |
| Manufacturing Unit I at Tapukara, Rajasthan | ₹4.88 crore |
| Manufacturing Unit II at Badli, Jhajjar, Haryana | ₹16.62 crore |
| Working capital requirements | ₹12.00 crore |
| General corporate purposes | – |
Taken together, the proposed facilities at Tapukara and Badli account for ₹21.50 crore of the planned deployment. A further ₹12 crore has been allocated towards working-capital requirements.
Strengths of Sumax Engineering
- Long operating history: Sumax has been in business since 1994, giving it more than three decades of operating experience in automotive and related product categories.
- Earnings have grown faster than sales: Revenue stood at ₹130.79 crore in FY2024 and ₹147.69 crore in FY2026. During the same period, PAT moved from ₹7.43 crore to ₹12.76 crore.
- Margins have moved up: Sumax’s PAT margin was 5.69% in FY2024. Based on the latest full-year numbers, it stands at about 8.64% for FY2026.
- Fresh capacity is part of the IPO plan: Sumax has set aside ₹21.50 crore for its proposed manufacturing units at Tapukara in Rajasthan and Badli in Haryana.
Risks of Sumax Engineering
- Revenue growth slowed in the latest year: Revenue stood at ₹146.13 crore in FY2025 and ₹147.69 crore in FY2026, showing a relatively small increase during the year.
- Borrowings have increased: Total borrowings moved from ₹7.75 crore in FY2025 to ₹13.06 crore in FY2026.
- The new plants will need to be executed as planned: Sumax intends to spend about ₹21.50 crore on two manufacturing facilities. Any delay in commissioning them, higher-than-planned costs or slower capacity utilisation could reduce the benefit expected from this investment.
- Automotive demand matters to the business: Sumax supplies automotive OEM and auto-refinish customers. Changes in production volumes, aftermarket demand and competitive pricing can therefore have an impact on the business.
Sumax Engineering IPO Review
Sumax comes to the IPO with a long operating record and stronger earnings than two years ago. Revenue moved from ₹130.79 crore in FY2024 to ₹147.69 crore in FY2026, while PAT reached ₹12.76 crore from ₹7.43 crore. Profit growth has therefore been stronger than sales growth. Part of the IPO proceeds will also go into additional manufacturing capacity in Rajasthan and Haryana.
The latest year also gives investors a few points to examine more closely. Revenue was ₹146.13 crore in FY2025 and ₹147.69 crore in FY2026, so the increase was relatively small. Borrowings, meanwhile, moved from ₹7.75 crore to ₹13.06 crore. Sumax is also putting money into two new manufacturing units. These factors need to be read alongside the improvement in profits and margins when assessing the issue at the upper price of ₹101.
