Indian Railway Finance Corporation Limited is the financier of the Indian Railways in India. The company operates through the leasing and financing segment. The core business of the company is to borrow money from the financial markets to finance the acquisition/creation of assets, which are then leased to Indian Railways as a capital lease. The main activity of the company is the financing of the acquisition of rolling stock assets, leasing and lending of railway infrastructure assets to other units under the Ministry of Railways (RM). The leasing method is used to finance rolling stock and project assets of Indian railways. It lends funds to MoR and other railway companies to further their growth plan. It also lends to Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) and IRCON. It raises funds from various sources, including term loans and bonds from domestic and international markets.
