Sun TV Rallies as IPL Franchise Valuations Rise

Sun TV Network gained 2.68% to close at ₹653.10, with investors focusing on the rising valuation of its sports franchises, particularly Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). Brokerage firm Elara Capital has retained its Buy rating and raised its target price to ₹925 from ₹780, citing the value of its sports assets and strong cash generation. [Source: Business Standard] Fundamental Trigger Recent high-value IPL franchise transactions have strengthened valuation benchmarks for established teams. Elara estimates that Sun TV's sports franchises, including SRH, Sunrisers Eastern Cape and Sunrisers Leeds, account for approximately 45% of its sum-of-the-parts equity valuation. The brokerage also highlighted the company's cash-generative television business and increased its FY28–FY29 revenue and earnings estimates by 4%, partly reflecting higher movie revenue. Technical View Sun TV is trading near ₹653, with immediate resistance at ₹662–663 and the next major level at ₹693. RSI near 77 indicates overbought momentum, while MACD remains positive. A sustained breakout above ₹663 with strong volume could strengthen the bullish setup. My View The rising valuation of Sun TV's sports portfolio is an important fundamental narrative supporting investor interest. However, reports of a possible sports-business demerger remain unconfirmed, and the company previously described such reports as market rumours. Technically, the ₹662–663 zone remains crucial for breakout confirmation. Disclosure: The analyst or his family does not have any position in the stock discussed at the time of publication.

Sun TV Network Ltd break and new 52 week highs

Sun TV Network Ltd. has staged an extraordinary weekly breakout, closing at ₹599.90 with a massive 22.4% surge. This powerful move comes at a time when the broader indices are facing intense selling pressure, highlighting institutional interest and idiosyncratic momentum in the broadcasting major. Technically the stock has given a break out above the weekly trendline. But, failed to close above it. The stock has also made a new 52 week high of 663.90 but failed to close above the previous high of 660.70. Sun TV closed at 599.90 and the stock is trading above all the short, medium and long term moving averages. There a huge spike in volumes on weekly charts and weekly RSI has moved above 60 indicating a possible bullish momentum in the stock. Weekly MACD is also above zero and flasing strong green bars. But, the stock is in the over bought territory on daily charts. Thus, we might see a consolidation or correction before the stock continues to move higher. The levels of 670 and 680 will act as a immedeate resistance. We might see a turnaround in the stock if it closes above 700 on weekly basis.

Sun TV Network Falls 1.3% After Eight-Day Winning Run

Sun TV Network slipped 1.3% on October 1 after an eight-session rally. ₹664 remains resistance, while ₹530 is key support. Sun TV Network Limited [

SUNTV
] fell about 1.5% on 1 October 2026, ending an eight-session winning streak. The stock opened with a gap down and closed lower. On 30 September, the stock rose as much as 18% to touch a 52-week high near ₹664 after a media report on a possible SunRisers Hyderabad demerger. The company called the report a market rumour and did not confirm it. Over eight sessions, the stock had gained around 47%, and it gave back roughly half of its intraday gain by that day's close. On the chart, ₹664 is the key hurdle on the higher side. It marks the recent high, and buyers need to clear it to restore momentum. On the lower side, ₹530 is the key support. A close below it would weaken the structure of the recent advance. Rumour driven moves can reverse quickly, so price action near these levels may say more than the news itself. This is a market observation, not a recommendation. Disclaimer: I, Akhilesh Jat (SEBI RA Reg. No. INH000016649), do not hold any position in the stock discussed. Sun TV Network IS PREPARING FOR POTENTIAL SRH DEMERGER

SUNTV
Shares of Tamil Nadu-based entertainment company Sun TV Network rose for the eighth consecutive session on September 30, gaining nearly 47% during the eight-session rally. The stock surged as much as 18% on Wednesday following a CNBC-Awaaz report that the company is preparing for a potential demerger of the assets of its IPL franchise, SunRisers Hyderabad. The broader media sector also witnessed strong buying interest, with the Nifty Media index rising nearly 4%, led by a sharp rally in Sun TV Network. Other media stocks, including PVR INOX and Saregama India, gained more than 4% and 3%, respectively. The sectoral index advanced for a second consecutive session. At its 41st Annual General Meeting held on September 18, 2026, Sun TV Network shareholders approved the adoption of the audited financial statements for FY26 and confirmed the interim dividends. Of the 103,045 shareholders on the record date, holders of 39,40,84,620 shares participated in the voting, representing 94.25% of the company’s outstanding shares. The promoter group, which holds 29,55,63,457 shares, participated fully through e-voting and cast 100% of its votes. According to an expert report cited in the market, SunRisers Hyderabad’s IPL franchise could be valued at around $1.4 billion-$1.5 billion, equivalent to approximately ₹13,000 crore-₹14,000 crore. The report also noted that IPL-related revenue contributed around 33% of Sun TV Network’s total revenue in the first quarter, highlighting the significant contribution of the cricket franchise to the company’s business.

Sun TV Network gains 18% on potential SRH demerger report

SUNTV
Sun TV Network Limited (SUNTV) surged up to 18% on September 30 after a CNBC-Awaaz report indicated that the company is preparing for a potential demerger of its IPL franchise, SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH). The reported valuation of the franchise is around $1.4–1.5 billion, equivalent to approximately ₹13,000–14,000 crore. IPL-related revenue accounted for about 33% of Sun TV’s revenue in Q1, making the franchise an important contributor to the company’s overall business. A separate structure for SRH could potentially provide greater visibility to the value of the cricket franchise and allow investors to assess the media and sports businesses independently. However, the demerger remains unconfirmed. Sun TV told the stock exchanges that the report was a market rumour and that the company could not comment on it. The stock had already gained for eight consecutive sessions and was up around 47% over that period before the latest move. This sharp re-rating means the market is already factoring in expectations around the potential transaction. Investors should watch for any official disclosure on the proposed structure, valuation, ownership, tax implications and regulatory approvals. The key question will be whether a demerger can unlock the reported franchise value without affecting Sun TV’s core media operations. Disclosure: I do not hold any position in Sun TV Network Limited.
