India Private CaPex Outlook September 2026

India’s total outstanding private capital expenditure (capex) pipeline reached ₹99.70 lakh crore ($1.05 trillion) in September 2026, registering a 39% year-on-year expansion and growing to roughly 4.1 times its March 2014 level, according to a report by Union Bank of India. The capex pipeline expanded by ₹46.40 lakh crore ($488.16 billion) over the past two years alone, compared to an increase of ₹7 lakh crore ($73.65 billion) across the eight-year period ending March 2022. While the overall value surged, the total project count grew by only 50% to 5,311, driving the average project size up 2.7 times to ₹1,878 crore ($197.58 million). Manufacturing and electricity form the bedrock of this investment wave, accounting for ₹41.30 lakh crore ($434.51 billion) and ₹32.20 lakh crore ($338.77 billion) respectively—together representing 74% of the total pipeline—while the services sector registered the fastest overall growth at 347%. The report underscored heavy sectoral and geographic concentration, with power generation, IT/ITES, metals, and chemicals together accounting for 80% of total planned investments, and ITES alongside conventional power contributing 87% of the annual increment. Geographically, Maharashtra’s share expanded from 9% in 2014 to 29% by September 2026, with the top five states encompassing 68% of the total pipeline and 21 state-industry clusters representing 59%. However, Union Bank of India cautioned that planned announcements could outpace on-ground project execution, noting an 87% surge in planned investment values against a modest 18% increase in project volume over two years. The analysis also flagged a critical lag in power transmission infrastructure relative to generation capacity additions, citing project concentration, large deal sizes, and potential execution bottlenecks as key risk factors for institutional lenders.

Union Bank of India Ltd Q2FY27 Result Fundamental Outlook

Union Bank of India delivered a strong performance in Q2FY27, supported by robust core income growth, expanding credit demand and declining bad loans. Standalone net profit increased 30.31% YoY to ₹5,537 crore against ₹4,249 crore in Q2FY26, while Net Interest Income (NII) grew 20.09% to ₹10,583 crore. Net Interest Margin (NIM) improved to 2.86% from 2.67% a year earlier. Business Growth & Asset Quality: Global advances increased 18.53% YoY to ₹11.56 lakh crore, outpacing deposit growth of 6.87% to ₹13.19 lakh crore. The Gross NPA ratio declined to 2.42% from 3.29%, while Net NPA improved to 0.42% from 0.55%. Return on Assets stood at 1.38%, reflecting improved profitability and operating efficiency. Key Risks: Non-interest income declined 6.90% YoY to ₹4,651 crore, primarily due to weaker treasury income. Sustaining credit growth, protecting margins and managing deposit costs remain critical to future earnings. Fundamental Outlook: The outlook remains cautiously positive, supported by healthy loan growth, rising core earnings and improving asset quality. Investors should monitor NIM sustainability, deposit mobilisation and credit costs. A sustained improvement in profitability could strengthen the bank’s long-term fundamental profile; however, valuation and market price trends must be assessed before making an investment decision.

CSB Bank targets FY28 ROA of 1.5–1.8% in Q2 concall

CSBBANK
CSB Bank Limited (CSBBANK) has shared its outlook in the Q2FY27 earnings call. The bank expects FY27 ROA at 1.29–1.5%, with an aspirational target of 1.5%, and aims for 1.5–1.8% in FY28. NIM guidance is maintained at 3.75–3.80% versus 3.81% in Q2, with FY28 NIM expected around 3.75%. Cost of funds is targeted to decline to approximately 6% in FY28 from the current 6.55%. Long-term loan growth is targeted at 30–50% above industry levels, subject to deposit mobilisation. Business growth is expected to accelerate from FY28 across wholesale, SME and retail. CASA growth is expected to outpace term deposits from FY28. Gold loan contribution is targeted to fall to 50% of advances by FY27-end and 32% by FY30. Gold loans grew 36% YoY and corporate loans rose 44% YoY. SME growth is expected to recover from Q3FY27. Retail expansion is planned from FY28. Core fee income is guided at 14–15% of total income, with overall fee income potentially reaching 18–20% longer term. Further asset quality improvement is expected over the next 2–3 quarters; current GNPA is 1.58% and NNPA is 0.33%. The key triggers are the ROA trajectory toward 1.5% in FY27 and 1.5–1.8% in FY28, alongside plans to reduce gold loan concentration and lower cost of funds. This supports a shift toward a more diversified and higher-quality growth mix. Peers such as Federal Bank, Karur Vysya Bank, and City Union Bank may face comparison on ROA, NIM, and loan growth. Near-term prices could react positively if execution on guidance remains on track. Risks include low CASA ratio, gold loan concentration, technology expenses, gold price volatility, and any regulatory changes in bancassurance. Competitors listed: Federal Bank, Karur Vysya Bank, City Union Bank. We have no financial interest in this news.

CSB Bank Q2FY27 PAT rises 14% on lower provisions

CSBBANK
CSB Bank Limited (CSBBANK) has reported its Q2FY27 results. Pre-provision operating profit (PPOP) was ₹275.76 crore, down 1.27% YoY but up 9.97% QoQ. PPOP stood at ₹275.76 crore versus ₹279.30 crore. Profit before tax (PBT) was ₹245.67 crore versus ₹215.65 crore (+13.92% YoY, +21.78% QoQ). Profit after tax (PAT) was ₹182.72 crore versus ₹160.33 crore (+13.96% YoY, +21.78% QoQ). Provisions declined sharply to ₹30.09 crore from ₹63.65 crore (-52.73% YoY, -38.63% QoQ). Gross NPA improved to 1.58% from 1.81% YoY and 1.75% QoQ. Net NPA improved to 0.33% from 0.52% YoY and 0.39% QoQ. The key triggers are the 14% YoY rise in PAT, driven by a sharp decline in provisions, and further improvement in asset quality with lower GNPA and NNPA. This supports stable profitability amid modest PPOP growth. Peers such as Federal Bank, Karur Vysya Bank, and City Union Bank may face comparison on asset quality trends and provision levels. Near-term prices could react positively to the better asset quality and lower credit costs. Risks include any moderation in core operating profit growth or a rise in slippages in subsequent quarters. Competitors listed: Federal Bank, Karur Vysya Bank, City Union Bank

Nifty Slips Below 23,015; PSU Banks in Focus

Nifty could not sustain above the 23,111 monthly resistance flagged in Monday’s view. It slipped below 23,030, came close to the 22,850 area and closed near 22,875, below the 23,015-22,920 pivot cluster. RSI at 37.81 has fallen sharply from the overbought zone to below the midline, showing weaker momentum. GIFT Nifty is about 74 points higher as of this writing, which points to a possible gap-up towards 23,000. Resistance: 23,111 / 23,300. Pivot cluster: 23,015-22,920. Support: 22,759 / 22,630. Sustaining above 23,015 could bring 23,111 back into view, and holding above that for half an hour to an hour could open 23,300. A move below 22,920 on a half-hour or hourly closing basis could bring 22,759 and then 22,630 into focus. Nifty PSU Bank rose 2.46% to 8,294 on Monday and is pressing against a falling trendline drawn from the August high, around 8,320-8,350. RSI at 54.74 has moved above the midline from near-oversold levels in early October.

UNIONBANK
, PNB, Bank of India and Federal Bank are among the names in focus. A close above the trendline would be a notable development. Index weakness after a failed test of monthly resistance shows why closing levels matter, while a sector pushing against a trendline adds context.
