M&M's Q2 profit rises 25%, but farm business remains weak
Mahindra & Mahindra Limited (NSE: M&M) reported Q2 FY27 consolidated revenue of ₹57,553 crore and profit after tax of ₹4,588 crore, both up 25% year on year. Its automotive business delivered 55% PAT growth, while farm revenue declined 6% and farm PAT fell 9%. What happened The automotive business was the main growth driver. Consolidated automotive revenue increased 39% to ₹37,756 crore, while PAT rose 55% to ₹2,388 crore. Total vehicle volumes, including sales through its last-mile mobility and electric vehicle subsidiaries, grew 26% to approximately 3.31 lakh units. The farm equipment business had a weaker quarter. Revenue declined 6% to ₹9,572 crore and PAT fell 9% to ₹1,053 crore. Standalone tractor sales were down 6% at 1.16 lakh units. Why it matters The headline 25% growth in consolidated earnings is strong, but the underlying businesses are moving at different speeds. SUVs continue to drive growth, supported by a 26% increase in vehicle volumes and a 24.3% SUV revenue market share. Farm performance is a watchpoint. Management attributed the decline partly to a shift in the festive calendar. However, tractor volumes and farm profitability need to recover before the weakness can be considered temporary. What to watch next Track SUV volumes, automotive profitability and the ability to sustain market share. In the farm business, the next few months of tractor demand will help establish whether the Q2 weakness was primarily seasonal or more persistent. Standalone EBITDA growth relative to revenue is another important metric. Stance: Constructive on the automotive franchise and consolidated growth, but not uniformly bullish across the group. A recovery in farm demand and better standalone operating leverage would strengthen the earnings outlook.

Adani Ports' €2.56 billion Evos deal expands
Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Limited (NSE: ADANIPORTS) has agreed to acquire 100% of Netherlands-based Evos B.V. at an enterprise value of €2.56 billion. Evos generated €219 million of CY25 EBITDA at a 56% margin, operating eight terminals across five European countries. What happened The proposed all-cash acquisition will give ADANIPORTS a liquid-storage platform with 6.3 million cubic metres of capacity and 37 million tonnes of annual throughput. Evos operates across the Netherlands, Germany, Spain, Belgium and Malta. The transaction values Evos at 11.7 times its CY25 EV/EBITDA. Although the payment to the sellers is in cash, ADANIPORTS plans to fund the transaction through debt. The company's pro forma net debt-to-EBITDA ratio is estimated at 2.76 times after the acquisition, with management expecting it to reduce to around 2.5 times by FY27. Why it matters This is a strategic move beyond conventional port handling. Evos adds high-margin liquid storage operations and exposure to energy-transition products such as sustainable aviation fuel, biofuels and methanol. The trade-off is the acquisition multiple and higher leverage. A high-quality asset can still become an expensive acquisition if financing costs, integration or future capital requirements dilute returns. What to watch next Track regulatory approvals, completion of the transaction, integration of the European terminals and progress in reducing net debt-to-EBITDA towards 2.5 times by FY27. Cash generation from the acquired business will be more important than the increase in global footprint alone. Stance: Strategically positive, but valuation and debt-funded execution need close monitoring. The acquisition strengthens the long-term business mix, although the benefits must translate into sustainable free cash flow.

Fractal crosses $100 million quarterly revenue
Fractal Analytics Limited (NSE: FRACTAL) reported Q2 FY27 operating revenue of ₹956.5 crore, up 20% year on year. Net income increased 139% to ₹79.2 crore, taking quarterly revenue above US$100 million for the first time. What happened The enterprise AI company reported 10% revenue growth in constant-currency terms, compared with 20% growth in rupee terms. Healthcare and Life Sciences grew 79%, while Banking, Financial Services and Insurance grew 30%. Consumer Packaged Goods and Retail, its largest vertical, grew 11%. Adjusted EBITDA margin expanded by 123 basis points to 16%. Net revenue retention stood at 115%, indicating that existing clients collectively increased their spending. Fractal's products, including its Cogentiq agentic AI platform, reached an annual revenue run-rate above ₹150 crore, up 39% year on year. Why it matters The result shows demand for enterprise AI solutions translating into stronger profitability and higher spending from existing clients. Growth in healthcare and BFSI is particularly notable because these are established enterprise verticals where AI projects can become embedded in important business processes. However, the headline 20% revenue growth needs context. Constant-currency growth was 10%, meaning the underlying expansion was materially lower than the reported rupee growth. Also, despite faster growth, the products business remains relatively small compared with the overall services-led revenue base. What to watch next The key indicators are constant-currency revenue growth, net revenue retention and adjusted EBITDA margin. Watch whether the products business can scale beyond its current ₹150 crore-plus annual run-rate without weakening profitability. Stance: Positive on client demand and margin improvement, but the investment case should be based on constant-currency growth and product monetisation rather than the headline profit increase alone.
