ABB India: Data centres are creating a new demand cycle
ABB
ABB India: Data centres are creating a new demand cycle ABB India Limited is seeing strong demand for electrification solutions from data centres, renewables and infrastructure. Data centres were among the key drivers of ABB India's order growth, making power infrastructure an increasingly important growth opportunity. **What is changing:** ABB India received orders worth ₹4,363 crore in Q2 CY2026, up 50% year on year. Data-centre orders included low- and medium-voltage switchgear, ring-main units and smart power products. Its H1 order backlog reached ₹11,898 crore, up 22%. The opportunity extends beyond one quarter. ABB is investing about $75 million in India during 2026 to expand manufacturing and R&D across five locations, including capacity for data centres, renewable energy and metro infrastructure. Around 85% of ABB's products and solutions sold in India are already manufactured locally. This matters because data centres require reliable, efficient and increasingly sophisticated power infrastructure. As computing requirements rise, demand for switchgear, power distribution, automation and energy-efficiency solutions can increase alongside data-centre capacity. **My view:** The interesting part of ABB India's data-centre opportunity is that it adds to an existing electrification business rather than creating an entirely new revenue stream. The key is whether data-centre orders remain large enough to support sustained base-order growth without creating excessive dependence on a single end market. ABB's diversified exposure across renewables, metals, mining, buildings and infrastructure provides some balance. **What I'm watching:** data-centre orders, order backlog, electrification margins, capacity utilisation and recurring base orders.

Bharti Airtel: The ARPU growth story of the company
BHARTIARTL
# Bharti Airtel: The ARPU growth story Bharti Airtel Limited is increasingly focusing on extracting more revenue from existing customers rather than relying only on subscriber additions. Its mobile ARPU reached ₹264 in Q1 FY27, with premiumisation becoming an important growth lever. **What is changing:** Airtel recently removed several prepaid plans, including the ₹299 option, pushing some users toward higher-priced plans. The ₹349 plan, for example, offers unlimited 5G data. Analysts estimate that the changes could add around ₹4–12 to monthly ARPU depending on customer migration. Airtel is also adding more benefits to premium postpaid plans. Its ₹999 and higher family plans now include Apple's iCloud+, Apple TV and Apple Arcade, giving customers more reasons to move toward higher-value plans. The strategy matters because telecom is a capital-intensive business. Airtel has previously stated that ARPU needs to move toward ₹300 to support the industry's investment requirements and generate reasonable returns on network and spectrum investments. **My view:** The interesting part of Airtel's growth story is that monetisation does not necessarily require an immediate headline tariff hike. Better plan mix, higher data usage, postpaid migration and bundled digital services can gradually increase revenue per customer. However, premiumisation has a limit. If pricing rises faster than customers' willingness to pay, churn or migration to cheaper plans could offset part of the benefit. **What I'm watching:** mobile ARPU, premium-plan migration, subscriber churn, 5G monetisation and postpaid additions. **Stance:** For Airtel, the key metric is increasingly revenue quality per customer rather than subscriber growth alone. **Disclosure:** I am a SEBI Registered Research Analyst. Bajaj Holdings: Understanding the holding-company discount
BAJAJHLDNG
# Bajaj Holdings: Understanding the holding-company discount Bajaj Holdings & Investment Limited is essentially a holding and investment company. Its June 2026 investment portfolio had a market value of ₹2.34 lakh crore, while its book value was far lower, making NAV and the holding-company discount the key numbers to understand. **The portfolio:** BHIL's biggest assets are its strategic holdings in Bajaj group companies. As of June 2026, strategic equity investments had a market value of ₹2.30 lakh crore against a cost of ₹19,841 crore. Debt securities were worth ₹2,021 crore and investment properties ₹371 crore. This creates an important distinction between **book value and economic value**. The company's investment portfolio was worth about ₹21,062 per share on an NAV basis, compared with a book value of ₹2,425 per share. But shareholders cannot simply assume that the full NAV will be reflected in the share price. Holding companies often trade at a discount because investors consider taxes, corporate expenses, capital allocation and the difficulty of directly accessing the underlying assets. BHIL also generates income primarily through dividends from its group investments. For FY26, it recommended total dividends of ₹195 per share, including the special payout marking the Bajaj Group's centenary. **My view:** The interesting way to study BHIL is not through conventional PE or revenue growth. The key question is how much of its underlying portfolio value is being reflected in the market price. A narrowing discount can create value even without a major change in the underlying businesses. Conversely, a large discount can persist if investors expect the holding structure to remain unchanged. **What I'm watching:** NAV per share, market price versus NAV, changes in Bajaj Auto and Bajaj Finserv valuations, dividends and capital allocation.
