LIC of India: New business value matters

!LICI Corporation of India (NSE: LICI) is scheduled to consider its Q2 FY27 financial results on, 5 November 2026. For a life insurer, premium collection is only one part of the performance picture. Product mix, persistency and new business profitability also matter. What I am watching: - Annualised premium equivalent growth - Value of new business - Individual and group business mix - Persistency ratios - Solvency and investment income My analysis: Premium growth driven mainly by lower-margin products may not create the same value as growth in profitable protection and individual products. I would therefore focus on value of new business and persistency rather than relying only on total premium figures. Next trigger: Quarterly business mix and value-of-new-business disclosures. Learning outcome: Understanding product mix, persistency and value of new business helps investors evaluate an insurer's profitability beyond headline premium collections. My stance: Prefer sustainable improvement in new business profitability.
