Polycab India Slides 6% as UltraTech Enters Wires Business

Polycab India shares fell nearly 6% after UltraTech Cement launched its Ultravolt wires and cables brand, raising concerns over competition.

POLYCAB
shares came under pressure on Friday, September 4, 2026, falling as much as 6.33% to an intraday low of ₹8,250 on the NSE. The stock was trading around ₹8,300, down 5.76%, marking a sharp reversal from the previous session’s gains and moving closer to its four-month low. The decline followed UltraTech Cement’s entry into the wires and cables segment. The company launched its new “Ultravolt” brand on Thursday, nearly three months ahead of its previously indicated December 2026 rollout timeline. UltraTech has committed around ₹1,800 crore to the new business, sparking concerns about heightened competition, pricing pressure, and potential market-share shifts within the industry. The pressure was visible across the sector. Dynamic Cables down over 10% while Finolex Cables shares also declined more than 4% during the session, reflecting broader investor concerns over the changing competitive landscape. Despite the sell-off, Polycab remains one of India's leading wires and cables manufacturers, with ongoing expansion plans in segments such as extra-high-voltage (EHV) and special-purpose cables. The key question for investors is whether UltraTech’s scale, distribution network, and financial strength can materially reshape India's fast-growing wires and cables industry. 📌 Disclaimer: This content is for information only and not investment advice.
