Jindal Steel Q2 net profit rises 20.7% YoY to ₹770 crore
Jindal Steel & Power Limited (NSE: JINDALSTEL)
JINDALSTEL
reported a second-quarter consolidated net profit of ₹770 crore, up from ₹638 crore a year ago. It also beat the analyst consensus estimate of ₹690 crore.
What happened: Profit grew about 20.69% YoY, a gain of ₹132 crore. Against estimates, the beat was ₹80 crore, or about 11.59%.
Why it matters: A double-digit beat over consensus forces analysts to revisit their near-term earnings numbers. How the stock reacts is still the market’s call.
My view: The headline is strong, but I only have the net profit figure. Revenue, EBITDA and margins are not in the data. So I cannot say how much of the beat came from steel realizations, lower input costs or non-operating items. What the numbers do show is profit growing 20.69% YoY while clearing estimates. That suggests costs and pricing held up better than analysts assumed. Infrastructure and construction spending also continues to support domestic steel demand. Based on this, I stay constructive for the next 0 to 3 months, with Metals & Mining and Steel Infrastructure as the overweight themes.
What I am watching: Domestic steel realizations, iron ore and coking coal costs, and quarterly production and sales volumes. A drop in realizations or a jump in coking coal prices would weaken this view.
