KEC International wins ₹2,872 crore Power Grid 765 kV order
KEC International Limited (NSE: KEC)
KEC
won a ₹2,872 crore order from Power Grid Corporation of India Limited to build 765 kV transmission lines in Gujarat. The lines are meant to carry 8.5 GW of renewable power.
What happened: On June 26, 2026, Power Grid lifted a nine-month tender restriction on KEC. This order is the first large Power Grid award in the data I have since that restriction ended. Earlier in October 2026, KEC also took orders worth ₹1,006 crore across its T&D, civil and cables businesses. Together that is about ₹3,878 crore of new orders, my own addition.
Why it matters: Being barred from a customer as big as Power Grid cuts off a major source of bids. A ₹2,872 crore award shows the ban has not hurt KEC’s standing in extra-high-voltage work. It also gives revenue that will be billed over several years.
My view: The order is good news, but its value to earnings depends on three things I cannot see in the data. These are the margin on the contract, the execution timeline, and KEC’s existing order book. Without the order book, I cannot say how much this adds in percentage terms. Transmission contracts also carry two known risks. Right-of-way delays can push out billing, and steel and aluminium prices can cut margins on fixed-price work. I treat this as a positive for visibility, not yet a call on earnings.
What I am watching: the execution start date, the first billing milestones, and any further Power Grid awards for green energy corridors.
