Sugar Stocks Surge Up to 5% on Fresh Export Quota Boost

India's sugar sector got a sweet lift as key stocks climbed up to 5% in early trading today, following the government's approval of an additional 87,587 tonnes export quota for the 2025-26 marketing year (October-September). The Food Ministry's decision, announced on March 16, comes after mills requested the extra allocation from a prior 500,000-tonne February quota—only this portion was utilized, with the rest lapsing. Mills must complete shipments by June 30, 2026, or extend to September 30 if at least 70% is exported by the earlier deadline. This incremental relief helps ease domestic surplus pressure, supports farmer payments, and improves realizations amid steady production gains. Leading gainers included

t Sugar (up ~4.45% to around ₹305),
UTTAMSUGAR
Mills (~4.1%), and Avadh Sugar (~3.47%). Bajaj Hindusthan Sugar, Shree Renuka Sugars, and Balrampur Chini Mills rose 1.4%-2.3%.
