AU Small Finance Bank (AU SFB) experienced an 8% decline

AUBANK
Financial Performance The bank reported a strong Q2 net profit of ₹857.7 crore, up from ₹561 crore in the corresponding quarter last year. Net Interest Income (NII) expanded by a healthy 31.5% YoY to ₹2,820.1 crore. However, NIM contracted by 9 basis points quarter-over-quarter to 5.8%. Management anticipates continued margin pressure driven by elevated systemic liquidity conditions and intense industry-wide competition for deposit mobilization. Provisions for the quarter stood at ₹359.4 crore, a decline from both the previous quarter and the year-ago period, which heavily supported the bottom-line growth. Asset Quality & Risk Metrics Headline asset quality remained broadly stable. Gross Non-Performing Assets (GNPA) witnessed a sequential improvement, declining to 1.99% from 2.10%. Conversely, Net Non-Performing Assets (NNPA) marginally ticked up to 0.81% from 0.76%. Management highlighted heightened slippages associated with seasonal stress in the tractor financing segment, though the unsecured loan portfolio demonstrated resilience. Total credit costs are projected to normalize around 0.9% for the full FY27, aligning closely with the bank’s long-term guidance of 0.9%–1.0%. Strategic Outlook & Macro Headwinds The bank has outlined a deposit growth target of 25% and aims to achieve business growth at approximately 2.5 times nominal GDP. Key macroeconomic risks flagged by management include the lagged effects of El Niño, deficient rainfall, and elevated crude oil prices, with Q3 expected to provide clearer visibility on rural impact. Furthermore, proposed IRDAI regulatory adjustments regarding insurance distribution may present headwinds to fee income, which the bank plans to offset via its forex, cards, and transaction banking verticals.
