Sensex down 7000 Points, Nifty Slips Below 22,400

Indian equity benchmarks traded in negative territory during afternoon dealings, with selling pressure across most sectors weighing on market sentiment. The Sensex declined around 700 points to ( 72,500, while the Nifty 50 dropped nearly 290 points to 22,400. Market breadth remained weak, with approximately 500 stocks advancing, 3,400 declining and 130 remaining unchanged. SECTORAL & broader MARKET UPDATE 🔹 Most sectoral indices traded lower, with IT emerging as the exception. 🔹 Energy, consumer durables, PSU banks, realty and metal stocks recorded losses of around 2–3%. 🔹 The Nifty Midcap index fell nearly 2.5%, while the Smallcap index declined close to 3%, reflecting broad-based selling pressure.
