M&M rises 3% ahead of Q2 results as auto stocks rally

M&MFIN
ra & Mahindra Limited (M&M) rose 3.35% to an intraday high of ₹3,072 on November 5, ahead of its Q2 FY27 results due later today. The stock opened with a 2.07% gap-up and outperformed the Sensex, which gained 1.8%. The rally was broad-based. Passenger car stocks rose 3.07% as a group, and the Nifty Auto index gained over 3%. Markets rallied as oil prices fell after the US midterm election results raised hopes of a faster end to the West Asia conflict. Lower oil prices help automakers by easing input and fuel costs. M&M has now gained for four straight sessions, adding 7.85% over that period. The move partly recovers losses from a three-month decline. In September, the company launched a refreshed Thar three-door SUV, and investors will look for early signs of its demand in today’s numbers. The risk is that expectations are building before the results. A 7.85% run in four sessions means the market is already positioning for a strong quarter. Much of today’s gain is also driven by the oil and market rally rather than company-specific news. If the results miss on margins or volumes, the recent gains could reverse quickly. Investors should watch SUV and tractor volumes, EBITDA margins, commentary on the Thar refresh, and input cost trends in today’s results. The key question is whether M&M’s numbers can justify the rally it has built ahead of them.
