NTPC Q2 profit jumps 39%, declares ₹3 dividend

NTPC
C Limited (NTPC) will be in focus when markets open on Monday, November 2, after it reported a 38.7% year-on-year jump in Q2 FY27 consolidated net profit attributable to shareholders to ₹7,029.56 crore, from ₹5,066.78 crore. The board approved the results on Saturday, October 31, along with an interim dividend of ₹3 per share and a November 6 record date. Consolidated revenue from operations grew 21.2% to ₹54,269.95 crore. Revenue from solar power generation rose to ₹1,138.23 crore from ₹722.52 crore, and electricity trading revenue grew to ₹3,172.14 crore from ₹2,655.43 crore. On a standalone basis, profit rose 14.3% to ₹5,319.94 crore, and revenue grew 16.8% to ₹45,752 crore. The headline growth is strong and broad-based. Solar revenue grew over 57% year-on-year, showing the renewable push is starting to add to earnings. The interim dividend also keeps NTPC attractive for income-focused investors. The gap between consolidated and standalone numbers matters. Consolidated profit grew 38.7%, while standalone profit grew only 14.3%. That means most of the outperformance came from subsidiaries and joint ventures, including the renewable arm, rather than NTPC’s core thermal business. Fuel costs of ₹28,628.19 crore also make up more than half of revenue, which keeps the company exposed to coal prices. Part of the revenue growth comes from electricity trading, which is a lower-margin business. Investors should watch subsidiary and renewable profit contribution, fuel cost trends, thermal plant load factors, and progress on capacity additions. The key question is whether NTPC’s subsidiaries can keep driving growth while the core thermal business grows at a slower pace. Disclosure: I do not hold any position in NTPC Limited.
