Gems & Jewellery Exports Slip 14% in June, But Gold & Platinum Shine Amid Global Uncertainty
In June 2025, India’s gems and jewellery exports saw a sharp 14.25% drop year-on-year, falling to $1.63 billion (₹13,978.98 crore), mainly due to high gold prices, weak global demand, and cautious domestic buyers. Cut and polished diamond exports plunged 23.49% to $778.78 million, while lab-grown diamond exports also slipped nearly 25% to $66.67 million as Chinese competition and price pressure intensified. On the bright side, gold jewellery exports rose 5.75% to $630.33 million and platinum jewellery exports grew 13.56% to $45.67 million, driven by resilient demand from markets like the Middle East, US, Japan, and China. Imports also declined by 2.96% to $1.55 billion, indicating traders are playing it safe amid global uncertainties and geopolitical tensions. Despite current headwinds, industry sentiment could improve with the upcoming festive and wedding season likely to boost domestic demand, especially for gold.
