HAVELLS
has closed its decades-long trademark fight with the HPL Group through a one-time settlement of Rs 129.6 crore, bringing all court disputes over the ‘HAVELLS’ name to a final end. As part of the mediated agreement, HPL formally acknowledged Havells India’s absolute rights to the ‘HAVELLS’ mark dating back to 1971, waived any past or future claims, and agreed not to use or challenge the brand going forward. HPL will also rename group entities that carry the Havells wordmark such as Havell’s Private Limited and Havells Electronics Private Limited, removing any reference to ‘Havells’ to avoid confusion in the market. The dispute’s resolution, achieved via a Delhi High Court referred mediation and covering matters pending across multiple courts including the Supreme Court, removes legal overhang on Havells’ brand ownership and should aid strategic clarity for the company’s operations and investor perception.
