HDFC Life Gets Regulatory Approval for Leadership Continuity as Q1 Performance Remains Strong
HDFC Life Insurance Company Ltd has received IRDAI approval for the reappointment of Vibha Padalkar as Managing Director and CEO for another 5 years from September 12, 2026, while Niraj Shah has been reappointed as CFO for 5 years from April 26, 2026, providing continuity at the senior management level.
On the business front, HDFC Life delivered a solid Q1 performance, with new business premium increasing 12% YoY to ₹8,143 crore, while Annualised Premium Equivalent (APE) grew 8.8% to ₹3,515 crore and retail APE increased 6.9% to ₹2,969 crore. Value of New Business (VNB) rose 8.5% YoY to ₹879 crore, ahead of the ₹842 crore estimate, while the VNB margin stood at 25% versus the 24.3% expectation.
The protection segment remained a key growth contributor, with retail protection APE rising 42% and retail sum assured increasing 31% YoY, taking the retail protection mix up by nearly 200 basis points to 8%. The company also highlighted 17% growth in agency and non-bank alliance distribution channels, ahead of overall industry growth. Profit after tax increased 12% YoY to ₹611 crore, while underlying profit growth, excluding the GST impact, was 17%.
Overall, the leadership approvals provide stability, while the Q1 numbers indicate healthy growth in new business, protection products and profitability, although continued execution will remain important for sustaining this momentum.
