India Accelerates Coal Gasification with ₹3 Lakh Crore Investment Potential

India is accelerating its coal gasification push, with eight companies, including Coal India, exploring syngas production as the country targets gasification of 100 million tonnes of coal by 2030. The government has approved a ₹37,500 crore programme, in addition to an earlier ₹8,500 crore incentive scheme, taking the cumulative support framework to ₹46,000 crore. The plan targets 25 plants over five years, with four already under construction, while the sector could generate around ₹6,300 crore in annual mining revenue. A major ₹25,016 crore project in Odisha, being developed by Bharat Coal Gasification and Chemicals Ltd., will produce 2,000 tonnes of ammonium nitrate per day and is receiving ₹1,350 crore in government support. Overall, the government expects the initiative to attract ₹2.5 lakh crore–₹3 lakh crore of investment and create around 50,000 direct and indirect jobs across coal-producing regions. With India currently importing nearly ₹2.7 lakh crore of end-use and intermediate chemical products annually, coal gasification could support greater domestic production and reduce import dependence, although execution and commercial viability will remain key factors. $COALINDIA Disclaimer: This post is for informational purposes only and not a recommendation to buy or sell any securities.
