KIMS doubles Anantapur hospital capacity to 500 beds
Krishna Institute of Medical Sciences Limited has doubled the capacity of KIMS Saveera Hospital in Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh, from 250 to 500 beds. The expansion adds specialised cancer care and maternal and child healthcare facilities.
The expanded hospital includes an oncology block equipped with a high-definition linear accelerator, PET-CT scanning and brachytherapy facilities. A dedicated mother and child block with specialised neonatal intensive care facilities has also been added.
The expansion is aimed at improving access to advanced healthcare across the Rayalaseema region. It also increases KIMS' capacity to serve patients requiring specialised treatment, including cancer care and neonatal services.
This development follows KIMS' recent agreement to manage Trust Multi Speciality Hospital in Kakinada, which has an installed capacity of 183 beds. Under the five-year agreement, KIMS will receive 9% of the hospital's net revenue, with an option to extend the arrangement for another five years.
My view: The key factor is whether the additional beds translate into higher occupancy and better revenue per patient. Oncology and other specialised services can support a broader treatment mix, but the financial benefit will depend on patient volumes, operating costs and the time needed to utilise the expanded capacity. The Kakinada agreement also offers a way to expand operations without relying entirely on new hospital construction, although its contribution will depend on the revenue generated.
KIMS shares trading today at ₹713.80 on the NSE, up 1.71%. I would watch upcoming quarterly results for hospital occupancy, revenue growth and operating margins to assess whether this capacity expansion is translating into stronger financial performance.
My stance: Operationally positive, but sustained revenue growth and margin improvement are needed to confirm the financial impact.
