Lupin secures USFDA approval for amifampridine

Lupin Limited has received USFDA approval for its Amifampridine Tablets, 10 mg, and is eligible for 180 days of shared generic exclusivity as one of the first applicants to file for the drug. The approval allows Lupin to enter the US generic market for a drug used to treat the condition specified in the approved labelling. The tablets are bioequivalent to Firdapse, marketed by Catalyst Pharmaceuticals Inc. The 180-day shared exclusivity period offers Lupin an opportunity to capture early market share before wider generic competition enters. However, this is a shared exclusivity rather than an exclusive 180-day market window for Lupin alone. Actual revenue contribution will depend on the number of competing applicants launching, pricing, market demand and the company's ability to secure commercial volumes. Lupin also secured USFDA approval for Phytonadione Injectable Emulsion, a product with estimated annual US sales of $52.3 million as of August 2026, according to IQVIA. My view: The amifampridine approval is positive for Lupin's US generics business, particularly because of the early-entry opportunity. However, regulatory approval alone does not guarantee meaningful earnings growth. I would watch the commercial launch timeline, pricing trends and initial sales contribution before assigning a higher valuation to this development. Lupin was trading at ₹1,997.70 on the NSE, up 0.06%. My stance is cautiously positive, with execution and revenue contribution being the key triggers to watch.
