-GPT Joint Venture has emerged as the lowest bidder and secured a major ₹1,201.36 crore contract from Northern Railway to design and build a rail-cum-road bridge over the river Ganga near Kashi Railway Station in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh; the bridge is planned about 50 m downstream of the existing Malviya Bridge and will feature four railway lines on the lower deck and a six-lane road on the upper deck, with eight spans of 108.5 m and two spans of 103.3 m using open-web steel girders, along with complete substructure, superstructure, railway and road approaches, associated overhead equipment and electrical works, all to be executed over a 48-month period.
