LG Electronics India: Beyond consumer electronics

LG Electronics India delivered a strong Q2 FY27, with net profit rising 25.7% year on year to ₹489 crore and revenue growing 19.5% to ₹7,380 crore. The quality of growth is worth examining. EBITDA increased 27.9% to ₹701 crore, while the EBITDA margin improved to 9.5% from 8.9% a year ago. This indicates that operating performance grew faster than revenue during the quarter. But the bigger development is the company's proposed entry into the Vehicle Solutions Business. LG Electronics India has approved a new business line covering automotive electronics and mobility technologies. The opportunity includes connected vehicles, digital cockpits, advanced infotainment systems and related software. This is an interesting strategic move. The automotive industry is increasingly becoming technology-driven, and electronics content per vehicle is expanding. LG could use its existing technology capabilities to enter a market beyond traditional home appliances and consumer electronics. However, this is an expansion plan, not an established earnings contributor yet. Investors should watch for investment commitments, customer partnerships, execution timelines and the actual contribution of this business to revenue. My view: The quarterly numbers are encouraging, and the diversification strategy adds a new growth angle. But the market will eventually need evidence of execution, not just an announcement. Valuation also deserves attention before drawing an investment conclusion.
