Sensex Jumps 1,233 Points; Reliance Surges 11.6%

Sensex close: It ended at 75,692.78, up 1,233.25 points (about 1.7%), against Friday’s close of 74,459.53. Nifty close: The Nifty50 closed at 23,440.80, up 387.70 points (1.68%), after an intraday low of 23,207.05. Streak: This is the third straight gain, after rises on Thursday and Friday. Top gainer:

led the Nifty50, up 11.60% to ₹1,300.00 on strong earnings. Other gainers: Tata Steel (+5.83% to ₹177.37) and JSW Steel (+5.13% to ₹1,309.90) followed, with Shriram Finance and Coal India also among the leaders. Top loser: Infosys fell the most, down 2.03% to ₹1,161.00. Other losers: ICICI Bank and Dr Reddy’s were also among the biggest losers, and another source listed Adani Ports, Sun Pharma, Axis Bank and HDFC Life. Sectors: Energy, PSU banks, consumer durables, infra, auto and oil & gas rose 1-4.6%, while IT, media and pharma fell about 0.5% each. Broader market: The Nifty Midcap index rose 1% and the Smallcap index 0.7%. Drivers: Falling oil prices and strong earnings from heavyweights, especially Reliance, strengthened sentiment.
