Sensex, Nifty Edge Higher; Trent Up, Shriram Down

Open: The Sensex and Nifty ticked higher at the open on IT and earnings, with oil limiting gains. Midday peak: At 1 PM the Sensex was up 569.07 points (0.77%) at 74,720.11, and the Nifty was up 168 points at 23,104.75. Top gainer:

led, up about 6% on strong Q2 numbers (₹3,041, up 6.27% at one point). Other gainers: Sun Pharma (up about 3% ahead of its Q2 result), InterGlobe Aviation (IndiGo, +2.9%), Infosys (+2.7%) and HCL Tech (+2.4%) also gained. Top loser: Shriram Finance led the decliners at 11:31 AM, Coal India (-1.65%) and Adani Enterprises (-1.64%) were also lower, with Adani Ports among the losers. Broader market: The Nifty Midcap 100 and Smallcap 100 were down 0.54% and 0.86% at 2 PM, and Suzlon, Swiggy, Sterlite Technologies and HFCL fell up to 10%. Sectors: Nifty IT rose the most and Consumer Durables fell the most.
