Sensex, Nifty Fall Fourth Day on Crude Surge

Sensex close: It settled at 73,123.83, down 125.56 points (0.17%). Nifty close: The Nifty50 closed at 22,600.00, down 87.65 points (0.39%), after touching an intraday low of 22,372. Losing streak: This is the fourth straight session in the red for both indices. Top gainer:

led the Nifty50, up 4.25% to ₹317.40 on heavy volume. Other gainers: Apollo Hospitals (+1.65%) and ONGC (+1.11%) followed, with TCS, Infosys, Asian Paints and Maruti also among the gainers. Top loser: Shriram Finance led the Nifty50 losers, down over 3%. Other losers: Adani Enterprises, JSW Steel, Jio Financial, Tata Steel and Adani Ports were also among the biggest losers. Sectors: All sectors closed in the red, with Energy, Metal and PSU Bank down about 2% each. Broader market: The Nifty Midcap fell about 2.6% and the Smallcap about 3%, which is much worse than the benchmarks.
