Sensex Opens Strong, Fades; IT Gains, Metals Slip

Open: The Sensex opened 503 points (0.69%) higher at 73,752, despite weak global cues and higher crude prices. At 10:00 AM: The Sensex was up only 34.75 points at 73,284.14, and the Nifty50 was down 73.70 points at 22,613.95. The opening gains have mostly faded. Top gainers: IT stocks led the Sensex pack, with TCS, Infosys and

up 2-4%. Top losers: Tata Steel fell the most on the Sensex, down 1.3%, with Adani Ports and IndiGo also among the losers. On the Nifty50, Hindalco, Adani Enterprises and Tata Steel were the top losers. Sector strength: Nifty IT jumped over 2% and was the only sector in the green at the open, even as an AI-led selloff hit global tech. Broader market: The Nifty Midcap fell 0.48% and the Smallcap 1.03%, so the weakness is wider than the benchmarks show.
