RBL Bank falls 6% despite 170% jump in Q2 profit

RBLBANK
shares declined 6% on October 13 despite the bank reporting a 170% year-on-year rise in standalone net profit to ₹482 crore for Q2 FY27. Meanwhile, IT stocks led sectoral gains, with the IT index rising 2.5% as buying interest supported the broader technology sector. RBL Bank’s quarterly performance showed significant improvement across key financial metrics. Net interest income increased 37% year-on-year to ₹2,131 crore, while operating profit surged 92% to ₹1,396 crore. The bank also reported an improvement in asset quality, with gross non-performing assets falling to 1.02% from 1.30% in the previous quarter. Net NPA declined to 0.29% from 0.37%. Despite these strong numbers, the stock came under selling pressure, indicating that quarterly earnings growth alone may not be enough to support the share price in the short term. Investors may also be assessing expectations already reflected in the price, the sustainability of earnings growth and the bank’s outlook for future quarters. The reported results do not, by themselves, establish the exact reason for the decline.
