Shabnam Sinha to Take Over as Airtel Payments Bank Chairperson as Sunil Mittal Steps Down

Airtel Payments Bank has announced a leadership transition, with Shabnam Sinha set to succeed Sunil Bharti Mittal as Chairperson from October 1, 2026. Mittal, who has served as the bank’s Non-Executive Chairman since April 2016, will step down from the board and conclude his tenure on September 30, 2026. Sinha, currently an independent director on the bank’s board, will take charge for a three-year term following approval from the Board and the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). She also chairs the bank’s Special Committee for Monitoring Frauds and serves on its Risk Management and IT Committees. Under Mittal’s leadership, Airtel Payments Bank has expanded to more than 121 million monthly active users and nearly 30 million bank account customers, supported by a network of over 500,000 banking points across India.
