Bank Nifty drops on option expiry as Nifty finishes flat.
The Bank Nifty index shed 391.80 points to close at 53,974.90 on October 27, 2026. The benchmark Nifty 50 index managed a flat settlement at 22,749.75 as defensive pharma stock accumulation balanced banking liquidations. The Nifty 50 index opened down at 22,708.80 and registered an intraday low of 22,636.85. Aggressive derivative unwinding across heavy-weight banking counters dragged the index down until a late hour recovery won back 76 points. The broader market breadth ended positive with 2,455 advancing stocks against 1,103 declining counters. Sectoral performance showed notable divergence during the trading session. The Pharma index led the advancing clusters by gaining 1.92 percent. The Realty segment advanced 1.49 percent, while the Energy sector rose 1.28 percent, tracking a 5.11 percent drop in Brent crude prices to 109.89 dollars. Conversely, the Financial Services sector dropped 0.36 percent to end as a primary laggard. My reasoning isolates the diverging derivative indicators between the main benchmark gauges. The Nifty 50 Put Call Ratio expanded to 1.05, signaling a minor structural edge for put writers at the 22,750 base. However, the Bank Nifty Put Call Ratio sits low at 0.66, confirming heavy call writing concentration at the 54,200 ceiling. The India VIX dropped 4.50 percent to 16.36, indicating a cooling of near-term hedging premiums despite the financial sector underperformance. I am watching the immediate horizontal daily mean resistance line at 22,841 during the upcoming trading session. Close My stance is rangebound between the 22,648 support floor and the 22,841 resistance barrier.
