Nifty rallies 375 points as oil prices ease

Indian equities staged a strong recovery, with the Nifty 50 rising 374.65 points (+1.66%) to 22,997.35 and the Sensex gaining 1,533.72 points (+2.11%) to 74,315.61. Softer crude oil prices and a stronger rupee supported sentiment. Key Market Data Bank Nifty: 55,810.50, up 0.89% India VIX: 14.03, down 4.04% Brent crude: $104.55 per barrel, down 1.42% USD/INR: 95.06 Sector Performance Oil & Gas (+1.50%), Auto (+1.35%), Realty (+0.98%) and IT (+0.91%) led gains. PSU Banks (-2.22%), FMCG (-1.25%) and Energy (-1.00%) remained weak. Technical Outlook Nifty closed above its 20-day moving average of 22,865, with RSI at 50. Immediate resistance is near 23,157, followed by 23,316. Support lies around 22,738 and 22,478. Bank Nifty reclaimed its 20-day moving average but faces resistance near 56,000–56,185. Weekend results from HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank and Axis Bank could influence the next move. Market Breadth and Institutional Positioning Despite the index rally, broader market breadth remained weak, with 1,342 NSE stocks advancing against 2,218 declining. Nifty option-chain data showed maximum put open interest at 22,500 and maximum call open interest at 23,500, indicating key levels to monitor. What to Watch Next Investors should track Nifty's ability to sustain above 23,000, crude oil and rupee movements, and upcoming banking results. The index recovery is encouraging, but weak broader-market participation calls for caution. Learning Outcome: A rising index does not always indicate broad market strength. Combining price levels, market breadth, volatility, commodity prices and earnings developments provides a more balanced view of market conditions. Disclosure: For educational purposes only.
