Markets in Red: Is FIIs' India Love Cooling Off?
The markets continued their downward slide today, with Nifty and Sensex both down -0.6%. Selling was broad-based—Midcaps fell -0.7%, Smallcaps -0.8%, and 370 stocks in the NSE 500 ended in the red.
Except for Metals (+0.4%), all sectors were under pressure. Banks (-1%), FMCG (-0.6%), and Energy (-0.6%) were the top losers.
So what’s spooking the Street?
FIIs (foreign institutional investors) have turned cautious on India, offloading over ₹13,000 crore this month alone. Higher US bond yields, global risk-off mood, and rich valuations back home are likely causes.
Key Movers:
Wipro rose +2% after posting a better-than-expected Q1, aided by margin expansion and deal wins.
Axis Bank tanked -5% after higher-than-expected provisioning dented profit.
Sterling & Wilson, Waaree, and Premier Energies dropped after US lobby groups sought higher tariffs on Indian solar cell imports.
Saregama gained +5% after acquiring NAV Records’ Punjabi-Haryanvi music catalog.
