NTPC Q2 profit jumps 41% to ₹7,351 crore

NTPC Limited (NSE: NTPC), India's largest integrated power generator, reported Q2 FY27 consolidated net profit of ₹7,351 crore, up 40.7% YoY. Consolidated revenue from operations increased 21.2% to ₹54,270 crore, reflecting strong performance across its power generation business and subsidiaries. Key Highlights • Consolidated net profit increased from ₹5,225 crore to ₹7,351 crore. • Revenue from operations grew 21.2% to ₹54,270 crore. • Profit from subsidiaries surged 73% to ₹1,990 crore. • Coal-based power stations achieved a Plant Load Factor of 75.11% during H1 FY27, compared with the industry average of 68.35%. • The board declared an interim dividend of ₹3 per equity share. My View NTPC delivered a strong quarterly performance, with consolidated profit growing significantly faster than revenue. The most interesting development is the 73% growth in subsidiary profits. This indicates that earnings growth is increasingly supported by businesses beyond the standalone power generation operations. The company's strong plant load factor also highlights its operational efficiency and ability to maintain generation capacity. However, the contribution from subsidiaries needs to be monitored to understand how sustainable this earnings growth is. With India's electricity demand expected to remain an important long-term growth driver, NTPC is strategically positioned to benefit from rising power consumption. What I'm Watching Next I will monitor power generation growth, plant load factors, subsidiary profitability and capital expenditure execution in Q3 FY27. The company's ability to balance capacity expansion with financial discipline will be important for long-term shareholder returns. Stance: Positive on earnings growth, operational efficiency and India's rising electricity demand, but capital allocation and subsidiary performance need continued monitoring. Disclosure: I do not have any holding or position in the stock mentioned above.
