IF FIIs ARE BUYING & DIIs ARE BUYING, WHO IS SELLING?
A very interesting question amid today's market correction! Both FIIs and DIIs were net buyers in the cash market on 21st October, purchasing approximately ₹2,637 crore combined. Yet, the Nifty and Sensex ended in the red. So, who is selling? 🔹 **Retail Investors & HNIs:** Individual investors and high-net-worth traders may be booking profits or cutting losses. 🔹 **Other Institutional Participants:** Insurance companies, proprietary trading desks, corporates and other market participants can also be sellers. 🔹 **Derivatives & Hedging:** Futures and options positioning can influence market direction even when cash-market institutional flows look positive. 🔹 **Global Uncertainty:** Rising crude oil prices above $110 per barrel and geopolitical tensions are weighing on sentiment. THE BIGGER PICTURE: Institutional buying is not enough to guarantee a rally. The market can fall when selling pressure is concentrated in heavyweight stocks or when investors are unwilling to hold risk. The key question is not just who is buying, but **whether buyers have enough conviction to absorb the selling pressure.** 📌 My View: Until the market shows sustained buying momentum and broader participation, aggressive bullish bets remain risky. Watch price action, market breadth and institutional flows together rather than relying on a single indicator.
