SBI LIFE INSURANCE: NEW BUSINESS VALUE IS THE KEY METRIC

SBILIFE is reporting its September-quarter performance today, bringing attention to premium growth, profitability and the quality of new business. In life insurance, headline premium growth is only one measure. Investors also track the value of new business, product mix, persistency and distribution efficiency. Key indicators to watch: - Annualised premium equivalent growth - Value of new business and its margin - Protection versus savings product mix - Persistency ratios - Solvency and distribution costs My view: Consistent growth in new business value and a healthy product mix can support the long-term earnings outlook. However, investors should assess valuation and the reported metrics before drawing conclusions from the quarterly results. Disclosure: This note represents my independent research assessment.
