Mahanagar Gas Q2 FY27: Profit falls 29%..

Mahanagar Gas Limited (NSE: MGL) reported consolidated revenue from operations of ₹2,778.05 crore in Q2 FY27, up 23.1% year on year. Net profit declined 29.2% to ₹135.4 crore. The results indicate that higher revenue has not translated into stronger earnings. The company's CNG and PNG sales volumes increased during the quarter, while operating profitability weakened. Consolidated EBITDA declined to approximately ₹304.75 crore from ₹337.95 crore in the corresponding quarter last year. The EBITDA margin also came under pressure, reflecting the impact of higher operating costs. My view is that volume growth remains a positive factor for Mahanagar Gas. However, the decline in profitability raises questions about the company's ability to maintain margins while expanding sales. Revenue growth needs to be assessed alongside gas procurement costs and the company's ability to pass on cost changes. The next important trigger is management commentary on gas sourcing costs, pricing and margins. The investor interaction scheduled for November 5, 2026, may provide further clarity on these factors. Stance: The volume outlook is encouraging, but margin recovery remains the key factor to monitor.
