“Why Risk Management Starts Before Entry”

Risk management should begin before a position is opened, not after the trade starts moving. Traders need to understand where their trading idea would become invalid and how much capital they are prepared to expose before making the decision. Planning risk in advance can reduce emotional decisions during sudden market movements. It also helps traders avoid changing their original plan simply because price moves against them. A technically strong setup can still become unsuitable if the potential risk is too large relative to the expected opportunity. Therefore, position sizing and invalidation should be considered alongside technical analysis. Learning: A trade should be planned around risk first, because protecting capital is essential for maintaining consistency over time.
