IndusInd Bank Returns To Profit, But What Changed?

INDUSINDBK k has made a significant recovery in its latest quarterly results. For Q2 FY27, the bank reported a net profit of ₹1,242 crore, compared with a loss of ₹437 crore in the same quarter last year. But the interesting part is what helped drive this turnaround. The bank’s provisions and contingencies fell 54% year-on-year to ₹1,223 crore. Gross NPAs also improved to 2.73%, compared with 3.60% a year earlier. Lower provisions and improving asset quality gave earnings a meaningful boost. However, there’s another side to the story. Net interest income increased only 3.6% to ₹4,569 crore, while net interest margin declined to 3.23% from 3.32%. For a bank, this matters because margins help show how effectively it earns from lending after accounting for funding costs. So, while the return to profitability is encouraging, investors still need to see whether the bank can sustain earnings growth through stronger core income—not just lower provisions. I’ll be watching three things in the coming quarters: loan growth, net interest margins and asset quality. **The real test for IndusInd Bank is whether this recovery can become sustainable growth.**
