Zydus Lifesciences just entered the US market with something

It has launched the first generic version of Adempas in the US, in partnership with MSN Laboratories. 💊 The drug is called Riociguat and is used for pulmonary hypertension, a serious condition affecting the lungs and heart.

Why does “first generic” matter? Because Zydus and MSN are currently the first companies to launch this generic in the US across all five approved strengths. And here’s the number that caught my attention. The original Adempas generated around $850 million in global sales in 2025, according to Bayer’s annual report. Now, that does NOT mean Zydus will suddenly get $850 million of revenue. Generics face competition, pricing pressure and market-share battles. But being first to market can give a company an important early advantage before other generic players enter. For Zydus, this is another example of why its complex-generics pipeline matters. The stock-market question is simple: Can Zydus convert this first-mover advantage into meaningful US revenue and profitability? Because in pharma, getting approval is one milestone.
