GPT Infraprojects secures ₹483 crore RVNL bridge order
GPT Infraprojects secured a ₹483.70 crore contract from Rail Vikas Nigam Limited to construct a major steel girder bridge over the Mahanadi river. This order significantly bolsters the company's railway infrastructure pipeline and revenue visibility for FY27.
The contract covers 32 spans of 65.84-meter open web steel girders for the East Coast Railway's multi-tracking project. This win validates GPT's technical capability in complex heavy civil structures, complementing recent orders from Eastern and Northeast Frontier Railways. It also supports the company's dual-engine strategy, pairing core civil execution with high-margin railway signaling EPC work following the Alcon Builders acquisition. I am watching the billing milestones for this bridge by Q3 FY27 and the operating margin trajectory in the upcoming Q2 FY27 results to confirm synergy realization.
The headline number is a ₹483 crore order, but the real story is the underlying margin profile shift. The market is currently fixated on the 3.38% YoY dip in Q1 FY27 revenue to ₹302.07 crore, completely missing the 4.90% YoY net profit growth to ₹24.63 crore. This divergence indicates early, tangible margin expansion. By integrating Alcon's signaling capabilities with its heavy civil expertise, GPT is moving up the value chain. Specialized bridge EPC and signaling carry structurally higher barriers to entry and superior working capital cycles compared to generic road construction. The consensus prices GPT as a standard mid-cap EPC player, ignoring the compounding effect of this dual-engine model on return on capital employed (ROCE) and earnings quality.
Accumulate on dips for a multi-quarter earnings re-rating.
