Gravita India forms US subsidiary to source scrap

Gravita India approved a $50,000 seed capital investment to establish its wholly owned US subsidiary, Gravita Recyclers USA Inc. This strategic move aims to secure direct access to international scrap supply lines and enhance global recycling operations. The new entity will streamline cross-border scrap sourcing, complementing a strong Q1 FY27 where consolidated revenue surged 41.8% YoY to ₹1,475.06 crore and net profit rose 14.3% to ₹106.37 crore. This matters because direct US proximity mitigates supply chain bottlenecks in the highly regulated global scrap market. I am watching the Q3 FY27 earnings call for initial trading volume metrics from the US entity and the capacity utilization rate of the newly expanded 75,819 MTPA lead recycling facility at Phagi. The market might dismiss a $50,000 seed capital outlay as a negligible rounding error for a company generating ₹1,475 crore in quarterly revenue. What the consensus is missing is the structural supply chain moat this creates. In the scrap recycling business, proximity to the source is the ultimate competitive advantage. By establishing a direct US footprint, Gravita bypasses intermediaries, securing cleaner, cheaper, and more consistent scrap feedstock. This directly protects gross margins from volatile freight and intermediary markups. The market prices Gravita purely on domestic capacity expansions, ignoring that securing the raw material pipeline at the source is the prerequisite for sustaining this top-line growth without margin compression. Accumulate for long-term supply chain margin defense. Disclosure: I do not hold positions in this stock. This is for educational purposes only and does not constitute investment advice.
